One of my challenges in going indie has been trying to ensure that my new books are available where you (my readers) like to shop. Since I’m Canadian, many of my readers are in Canada, which means that Chapters/Indigo is the place they shop. That’s the big bookstore chain in Canada. My digital books are available from KOBO, and since Indigo was involved in the start-up of KOBO (they later sold their share to Rakuten), my digital books are linked from the Chapters/Indigo site to the KOBO site.
But what about paperbacks? The terms offered by Createspace, where I’ve done my trade paperbacks to date, apparently don’t suit Chapters/Indigo. I did some digging this year and tried and experiment with another POD portal.
Lo and behold, it WORKED!
My test case was the True Love Brides series. I made them available through this other portal, just to see what would happen. This is what happened:
The Renegade’s Heart at Chapters/Indigo
The Highlander’s Curse at Chapters/Indigo
The Warrior’s Prize at Chapters/Indigo
There was a production question with The Frost Maiden’s Kiss, but it’s on its way to Chapters/Indigo as well and will show up there soon. YAY! The books are available for order from the online portal, but having them in the system probably also means that you can order a print copy at your local Chapters/Indigo bricks and mortar store.
Ha. I’m so glad I’ve figured out a way to do this. Going forward, all new titles will be published so that they’re available at Chapters/Indigo in print, too. For example, The Crusader’s Bride will be set up for this distribution path from the outset.
I’ve also started the process to make the print editions of The Dragon Legion Collection, Serpent’s Kiss and Firestorm Forever available at Chapters/Indigo. Stay tuned!
