New Cover for When Annika Met Thom

When Annika Met Thom, book ten of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke

The plan was for When Annika Met Thom to be a novella to wrap up the Flatiron Five Fitness series, at least for now. That’s why the cover was just type, so everyone would know at a glance that it was a shorter work, like Two Weddings & a Baby. But you know what they say about best laid plans: they go awry.

I really like this couple and they were a lot of fun to write about. Their story kept getting longer until it grew into a book. It’s about the same length as Just Home for the Holidays, which meant it needed a couple on the cover to show that it’s a complete romance. Fortunately, my amazing cover artist came to the rescue in a hurry.

This also means that the price of the book will increase on the publication date, because it’s a longer work. All the more reason to pre-order today!

Here’s the new cover and the new copy. This book will also be available in a paperback edition.

When Annika Met Thom, book ten of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke

Annika is done with waiting…
She’s known since kindergarten that Leo is the one and as soon as she gets to New York, their shared future will begin. But she arrives to find out that Leo is avoiding her and has to make a deal with Leo’s grumpy but hot roommate, Thom. It’s amazing that he can make her simmer with just a glance—never mind that she forgets all about Leo in Thom’s presence. When she learns that Leo has dumped her for someone else, Annika realizes she has no tears to shed. Seducing Thom seems like the ideal way to make up for lost time—but can she persuade him that all she wants is to feel alive again?

Thom is prepared to wait for the good stuff…
He’s learned the hard way that romance on the rebound never works—and he won’t be burned again. He never would have expected to even like Leo’s fiancée, much less to find Annika just about perfect. Temptation is impossible to resist: not only are they sharing a small apartment, but they’re working together at F5F for the same two weeks—and Annika makes steady progress over his objections. Just when Thom realizes he’s falling fast, Leo tries for a reconciliation. It’s the same story all over again—but this time, can he convince Annika to choose a future with him?

Flatiron Five Fitness Cover Reveal

This winter, I’ve been doing some work on my main contemporary romance series and today’s the day to show you some of the results.

First up, Flatiron Five will have a new series name: Flatiron Five Fitness. The books have new titles and new covers – and Tyler has a brand new book.

Let’s look at the covers first – here they are in order. I just love them!

Just One Fake Date, book one of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke Just One More Time, book two of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke Just One Night Together, book three of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke

Just One Hometown Hero, book four of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke Two Weddings and a Baby, book five of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke Just One Second Chance, book six of the Flatiron Five Fitness series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke

Just One Fake Date is a new book. Tyler is still the hero of book one, but he has a different partner now. I love how Shannyn challenges him and his assumptions, and how Tyler wins her wary heart. There won’t be a pre-order on this – I’ll just publish it as soon as it’s ready to go.

The other five books have new titles and covers, but are the same stories. They’re being tweaked, to ensure consistency with the changes to Tyler’s story, and to fix a few inconsistencies. Sonia’s name, for example, will now be spelled the same way throughout the entire series. And of course, any appearances from Amy will now be appearances by Shannyn – and Shannyn will be more involved with the club. Since these are just updates and not new stories, if you’ve purchased any of them, you’ll be able to download the new version as an update at your portal of choice. I plan to have the updates done in May and will update Goodreads then, too.

As a result of this transition being in the works, the website is a little wonky right now, since it still shows both series.

Just One More Time is Kyle and Lauren’s story.

Just One Night Together is Damon and Haley’s story.

Just One Hometown Hero is Cassie and Reid’s story.

Just One Second Chance is Theo and Lyssa’s story.

The most exciting thing for me is that this change sets up the series to continue. I’ll have news for you tomorrow about that.

What do you think of the new covers?

DragonFate Covers

Maeve's Book of Beasts, book 1 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeThe DragonFate series features the Pyr‘s battle against Maeve, the dark Fae queen who wants to exterminate all species she considers unnatural (because they are half human). We met Maeve in Firestorm Forever and glimpsed her souvenir gallery of species she had already eliminated. In this series, she targets the Pyr and other species in the world – and the Pyr come to the defense of shifters like themselves, led by the spark of the firestorm. What I like about this series is that there are lots of paranormal creatures in the cast, as well as some humans and an opinionated ghost.

Dragon's Kiss, book #2 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeWhat I like about this series is that the heroines will also have special powers of their own, and this is going to complicate matters with their dragon shifter heroes and destined mates. We’ll see an over-arching romance between Melusine and Theo, one that is complicated both by her special powers and the persistent ghost of her dead husband, Raymond. There will also be another over-arching romance between a very human librarian and a hot vampire who is part of the team battling Maeve. We’ll also explore the origins of the Pyr. This is a big canvas and I’m excited about all my plans and possibilities.

Dragon's Heart, book 3 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeMy original scheme was for DragonFate to be four books. The working titles were Hot-Blooded, Spell-Bound, Star-Crossed and Dusted, but I’ve since learned it would be better for discoverability if the titles to include the word Dragon. Donna Grant has also published a dragon shifter book called Hot-Blooded (as well as one called Dragonfire) in the interim, so it’s better to avoid confusion.

I’ve gone with Dragon’s Kiss, Dragon’s Heart and Dragon’s Mate for the first three books. The pre-quel is called Maeve’s Book of Beasts and will launch in August. Dragon’s Kiss will be published in October, followed by Dragon’s Heart in January and Dragon’s Mate in April.

Dragon's Mate, book 4 of the DragonFate series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeOne of the things I really like about these covers is that the artist used the colours of each Pyr in his dragon form on his book cover. Kristofer (Dragon’s Kiss) is peridot and silver in his dragon form, and has blond hair and blue eyes in his human form. Rhys (Dragon’s Heart) is garnet and silver in his dragon form, and has dark hair and dark eyes in his human form. Hadrian (Dragon’s Mate) is emerald and silver in his dragon form, and has auburn hair and green eyes in his human form.

Another thing I noticed later which I think is funny – the model chosen by the artist for Rhys on Dragon’s Heart is the same model I chose for Some Like It Hot in the Flatiron Five series. He looks a bit different with his shirt off and a dragon tattoo. I think it’s also possible that the model on Dragon’s Mate is the same one used on Some Guys Have All the Luck, but am not positive about that. This is why so many covers show the models without their faces, but I like to see their eyes.

Pre-order links are populating now and will be added to the landing pages for each book as they go live.

This series lives on the Dragonfire website, since it’s set in the same world. You can find it here.

Cover for The Mercenary’s Bride

The Mercenary's Bride, book #1 of the Brides of Inverfyre series of medieval Scottish romances by Claire DelacroixThe Mercenary’s Bride is a Christmas novella and my contribution to The Nutcracker Reimagined, a 2017 multi-author anthology for Christmas. It’s also the first story in the Brides of Inverfyre series.

It’s the story of Mhairi, daughter of the Hawk of Inverfyre and his wife Aileen. (The family tree for Ravensmuir and Inverfyre is a free download in my online store, right here.) Mhairi is the middle child of five and the second daughter. She’s a crack shot with a crossbow and a bit of a tomboy, and she’s unafraid to defy her father. Her interest was why the mercenary Quentin was dismissed from Inverfyre, but when he returns, bitter and wounded, Mhairi is the only one who can see his merit. Can her love heal him? I think you can guess, but I hope you’ll join me for their adventure.

The Mercenary’s Bride will be available in a digital edition on its own in 2018. I’m excited to have the cover done already and wanted to show it off to you. Since this story is a novella, there won’t be a print edition of it – it’ll be tucked into the print edition of book #2 in the Brides of Inverfyre series instead.

What do you think of the cover? The couple are exactly perfect for Mhairi and Quentin.
