Yesterday, I told you about my monthly newsletters ending in October. I have a few more changes happening as well.
First, I’m finding that first-in-series-free is not working as well as a tool to discoverability. Ten years ago, it was a reliable way to find new audience – readers would try the sample and if they liked it, they’d buy subsequent books in the series. That doesn’t work so well now as more people just want to read for free. So, Kiss of Fire has returned to a paid read.
Just One Fake Date remains a free series starter until the new covers are out in the world. I’ll change it back to paid at the end of November.
I’ll also be running fewer 99cent book sales at the retailers. I tried that this year, featuring a book per month, but coordinating the price changes was a lot of trouble and results were minimal. I find that the big promotion tools, like BookBub, have become too expensive for the results they deliver, so enough of that.
Facebook has also decided to charge for posts that have links in them on pages, like Deborah Cooke’s FanPage, in order to make them visible. The price on that is $499USD per month, with a maximum of twelve posts per month with links, so that’s not going to happen either. I’m already posting less on Facebook and fully expect the automatic posting from my blog to my page to stop working shortly.
All of this means that the best (and maybe the only) way to stay up to date with my news is to follow the blog here at the site.

What I will do is lean into the capabilities of my online store, Hazel & Honeysuckle Press. Instead of creating discounts at the retailers each month, I’ll be sending a newsletter from the store starting in November. That newsletter will include discount codes for featured products in the store. If you buy anything from my online store, you have the option of signing up for the newsletter.
The good news is that all of these changes mean more time for me to write, and I can’t regret that. 🙂
