What’s Next for Special Editions of The Darkfire Chronicles?

If you were following the campaign for Kiss of Twilight and the new special editions of The Darkfire Chronicles at Kickstarter – or if you had backed it – you will have gotten a message that I cancelled the campaign.

My original plan was to have Kiss of Twilight written before the campaign launched. That didn’t happen for a whole bunch of reasons, but I decided to launch anyway, thinking I could write while the campaign was running. That wasn’t working out either. I like to fulfill campaigns promptly and this situation was giving me stress.

I cancelled the campaign yesterday to give myself some space to breathe. It worked beautifully – I wrote a lot yesterday, since I wasn’t worried about the Kickstarter campaign.

The plan now is to run a similar campaign in 2026, when Kiss of Twilight is written and ready to go.

All of the files to print the swag planned for that campaign are ready to go. The hardcover edition of Kiss of Enchantment is set up at the printers and the first print run is already paid for – I had to do that to get the proof. So, I’m going to go ahead and order that initial print run. The books should arrive (I think) by the end of the year.

Here’s the mockup of that book. When the copies arrive, I’ll make a video to show them off.

I’ve put the hardcover special edition of Kiss of Enchantment up for pre-order in my online store. That print run is for 50 copies. If 10 of them sell by February 1, I’ll order the foiled bookmark to go along with each pre-ordered book.

If 25 of them sell by February 1, I’ll order the foiled postcard with Kit Fox’s illustration printed in colour on the back to go along with each pre-ordered book.

We’ll save the silver foil dragon stickers and whatever isn’t sent to printing on February 1 for the Kiss of Twilight campaign.

There are limited options right now for shipping calculation in the store, since Canada Post is on strike, but that will resolve when they are back to work. You can also choose to pick up your book at Pages & Pleasures, the signing I’m doing in March in Kitchener, Ontario. That’s under Local Pickup and it means you won’t pay any shipping at all.

Here’s the page in my online store for that hardcover special edition of Kiss of Enchantment.
