One of the things I’ve been thinking about as I work on these Kickstarter campaigns, is planning a new pretty set of the Dragonfire Novels in hardcover for your keeper shelf (and mine!)
I want to make these editions shiny, with foil on the dust jackets and foil on the case laminate, with printed edges on the pages, printed endpapers and background images inside the books. I want to commission character art and add more fun rewards for campaign backers.
The other issue, of course, is that it takes eleven books to contain the whole series of fourteen stories, and that will make a big investment all at once.
But now, I have a plan.
We’re going to do these in increments, the same as the bundles: there will four campaigns altogether, each featuring three books (or equivalent) with special collectibles associated with those books. The first campaign will be for the new editions of Kiss of Fire, Kiss of Fury and Kiss of Fate. You’ll be able to add those to your collection in the second campaign – for Winter Kiss, Whisper Kiss and Darkfire Kiss – but you won’t be able to get the additional rewards for the first three books after the first campaign ends. If we run two campaigns in 2026 and two in 2027, that should spread out the cost a bit.
Of course, I’ll commission the covers and get the books set up in advance, so you don’t have to worry about my not finishing out the series in these pretty new editions. These editions will not be available at retailers.
Putting together the new editions of Kiss of Enchantment and Kiss of Twilight is a good test, to work out the issues and answer the questions. I’m working with a new printer on that campaign and am optimistic that all will work out beautifully for this campaign and the future dragon campaigns.
