To my delight, I’ve been able to do some reading for pleasure again. And now, that I’ve finally caught up on all the administrivia associated with making my backlist available again (and gotten Murdoch out into the world), I’m looking forward to doing even more.
This past week, I read That Book (as discussed yesterday) and also two mysteries by Donna Leon. I love her books, because they’re so atmospheric. Her mystery series is set in contemporary Venice (one of my favourite places) with a continuing character who is a police detective. Although I’ve read the books out of order and only about half of them so far, I just love them. This week, I read About Face and Wilful Behavior. (See? Out of order again.) I’ve also been working my way through Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales again – savouring it, really, one little nibble at a time. Finally, Mr. Math has brought home a number of wonderful non-fiction books. Five Hundred Buildings of London and Five Hundred Buildings of Paris are obviously part of a set. (I hope there’s a Five Hundred Buildings of Venice, but maybe not.) He also brought me a very interesting volume called The Lore of Scotland: A Guide to Scottish Legends. (And yes, actually, we are going to have to start looking for another bookcase. How did you guess?)
Next up, I’ll be reading the work of some of the other writers in my writing group. I also have a YA novel here that I agreed to quote for, which looks pretty interesting. That ms has been waiting on me for a while, so I need to get to it. Plus Donna Leon (actually, her continuing character Paola, the wife of the detective) has given me the idea of reading Henry James again. It’s been a while, and I’m probably due for another dip into that pond.
What are you reading?

On the recommendation of Ilona Andrews on her blog, I found Nathan Lowell.
Reading the first book of the ‘Tanyth Fairport’ Herbalist series, I often thought the writing style was similar to Carla Kelly’s. I’m looking forward to the next book. I am unsure about the ‘Solar Clipper’ series, because while I liked the first book, in the second book the main character suddenly turned from a friendly, restrained person into a sex maniac. So now, I’m a bit scared of reading the third book…
Will you be epublishing your Unicorn trilogy? I rather liked the funny blurb of the second book.

Interesting, RY. I’ll have to find out more about Nathan Lowell.
The rights to my unicorn trilogy (UNICORN BRIDE, PEARL BEYOND PRIDE, UNICORN VENGEANCE) are still held by Harlequin. Harlequin did release the second two this month in new digital editions, so they are available in that format. I suspect Harlequin will eventually create digital editions of all of the backlist titles they still hold, but have no idea what their plan is for UNICORN BRIDE. I would have expected all three to be published in unison, or at least the first book in the trilogy first.
I assume those are the books you’re talking about as those are my only unicorn books. I don’t remember the blurb on PBP being particularly funny, though…
