Print Distribution

One of the interesting things about publishing right now is how quickly things are changing. Each time I publish a book, something about the process is faster, slower or configured differently. Usually, these changes are improvements, which is a good thing.

Firestorm Forever, A Dragonfire Novel and paranormal romance by Deborah CookeToday’s question is just how long it will take for the print edition of Firestorm Forever to be listed as available for sale at portals other than Amazon. You might recall that last week, I published the print edition early, which made it immediately available at Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and the Amazon portals in Europe. Thanks to everyone who has already picked up a copy!

This morning, I put the print edition into expanded distribution. This means that information about the book will perk through to other portals, like B&N and The Book Depository, through distributors like Ingrams or Baker & Taylor. Interestingly enough, the listings at Amazon.ca are created this way, as well. So, the clock is ticking. Let’s see how long it takes for the print edition to appear at these other portals.

Here are the Amazon.ca and B&N links for the book today, which are only for the digital edition. I suspect that it will appear as a separate listing at B&N first, before the two editions are married up. This is my author page at the Book Depository but you can see that their algorithm isn’t very accurate in assigning titles to an author page.

Another thing in transition this month is that Overdrive is changing their publisher interface near the end of the month. This is a good thing, as their current interface is quite primitive. I’m going to wait to publish Firestorm Forever there until after the change is done – and all the glitches are resolved! – so look for it to be on Overdrive in June.
