Please welcome my friend, Sylvia Day, to Alive & Knitting today. Sylvia is another one of those accomplished, smart and funny women I’ve been so lucky to meet through RWA. One of my fave activities at conf is to settle in – preferably with a glass of wine! – for a good long chat with Sylvia. So, I’m excited to have her here to visit today, to talk about her new book and new series.
Please welcome Sylvia!
First, I must say how happy I am to be here with Claire today. I always look forward to chatting with her, especially in person (which doesn’t happen nearly often enough). Having the opportunity to come talk about my latest book makes my day. 🙂
That said, I never know how to talk about my books. I mean, it took me 400+ pages and many weeks to write the story. How the heck do I boil it down into bite-sized chunks? Well, my answer to that is…
…with pictures!
A Touch of Crimson (do you love the cover? I do.) is the launch book in a new paranormal romance trilogy about angels, lycans, and vampires. Although each book features a different couple, there is an overarching storyline divided over the three books. A Touch of Crimson is Adrian’s story and he’s the leader of the angels. Here’s what I think he looks like:
Isn’t he delicious?
Adrian has a bit of a problem–he is forbidden to fall in love. He was created for the sole purpose of punishing other angels for that offense and so Adrian is a weapon. His wings are impervious to damage from mortal weapons and the tips slice like blades. When he pivots, they flow fluidly around him, like a cape. When he fights, it’s a lethal dance that’s both graceful and frightening.
And then comes Lindsay.
The moment Adrian sees Lindsay, he realizes she’s carrying the soul of a woman he loved long ago (against the rules, but he can’t help how he feels). Being with her is irresistible for him and he refuses to belittle his feelings by thinking of them as a mistake. He loves and he accepts that he loves. If there are consequences to be faced, he’s ready for them. (After all, he’s the consequence for another set of naughty angels so he knows whatever punishment he gets isn’t going to be pretty. But it’s worth it to him.)
Lindsay’s returning love for Adrian is purely selfless. She will sacrifice everything–her happiness, her life, her soul–to keep him safe. That depth of love is a revelation for Adrian, who was created without feelings and is still learning how to deal with them.
Lindsay is a mortal, but because of the extra soul she’s carrying inside her she has special gifts, which has led her–through tragedy–to become a vampire slayer.
Now, the punishment given to the angels Adrian was sent to take care of was the loss of their wings. When the angels lost their wings, they lost the ability to sustain themselves and became blood drinkers. So, Lindsay and Adrian are in accord in this regard–they’re both policing the vamps in their own way. What she’s not so sure about is how Adrian uses lycans to help him keep the punished angels in line.
The lycans aren’t so sure about it either–they want to revolt. And the vampires are making noises, too.
Falling in love is the least of Lindsay and Adrian’s problems.
So there’s A Touch of Crimson in a nutshell! If you’re intrigued, I hope you’ll try it. It went on sale Tuesday.
I have a copy of the book to give away today to one commenter. Just let me know this: if you had a choice, would you rather be an angel, vampire, lycan, or a mortal?
Thanks for spending time with me!

I think I’d stick to being mortal, although I can see perks (as well as disadvantages) of begin angel, lycan or vamp. I suppose if I had to pick one of them, I’d hope for angel. 🙂

If I have to choose I choose angel 😛 But I prefere to be a dark angel. Just I’m not good enough to be a angel of light, so I guess be angel of darkness is just for me 🙂 And – no – I’m not some little depressed girl 😛

Hmm, I think I’d want to be a cat shifter or an angel. I love vampires but I’d miss going out in the sun.

I lean toward angel, too, but I’m afraid of heights.
But maybe I wouldn’t be if I had wings. I wouldn’t drop like a boulder then. 🙂

Lycan. I like the idea of belonging to a pack and being able to run free through a forest.

Since I am incredibly leery of heights and not a blood type gal, I would rather be lycan or human.
