Today, we celebrate Victoria Day in Canada. (Here’s what Wiki has to say about it.) This statutory holiday is to celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria and also that of the reigning monarch, whenever his or her birthday actually falls. That’s QEII right now.
For most of us, Victoria Day is a celebration of the arrival of summer. It’s the first long weekend of the summer season. That calls for barbeques, cottages being opened for the season, boats being slipped into lakes for the season, family gatherings, and fireworks. It also means busy highways and very busy garden centres. It’s the first weekend after the last official frost date for much of Canada, which means annual flowers and vegetables can go into the garden, containers can be planted and hanging baskets can be put in place.
Whether you celebrate Vicky’s day or not, I hope you have a good Monday!

For the US, summer officially starts next weekend, as we celebrate Memorial Day. Barbeques, pools, and lots of old war movies on the TV.
We’ll join you then.

I’m still waiting for freezes to pass. Been dipping down into the 30s lately and I think summer is going to pass us by.
Enjoy the start of your warm season and may the holiday be fun, too.
