Do you have a favourite comic strip?

I always loved The Far Side and Calvin & Hobbes, neither of which are being drawn any longer. One strip I’ve been enjoying lately is Pearls Before Swine, especially this week as Rat takes a job in publishing.

2. Rat tackles the slush.

What comic strips do you like?

  1. I wasn’t so much a Far Side fan, but Calvin and Hobbes was definitely a fav.

Nowadays I read Zits, Baby Blues, and On The Fastrack (go to the comics section of the Washinton Post.com)

  2. I loved the Far Side but Calvin never did a thing for me.

Pearls is one I like to read and Zits is like a preview of my life. 😉 I love Zits.

Adam is fun to read and Rose is Rose.

  3. I don’t like Pearls before Swine. Too much bad grammar. I always read Doonesbury, Funky Winkerbean, For Better or Worse and Zits. I like to read the old strips of Calvin and Hobbes and Bloom County. I have a great gadget on my iGoogle page and can select the comics I wish to view.

  4. I still remember love Calvin and Hobbes. I have one of there strips on my locker at work and taped to the wall next to where I write. Garfield and Cathy were two others I liked as well.

  5. I like for better or for worse, and the far side…I bought the complete collection for far side and re-enjoy some everyday!

I’d never heard of Pearls before Swine, but those I read were really cute, I may have to star!

  6. Pam – my fave Far Side was the one with the woman talking to the poodle. (Of course the woman had those pointy glasses.) The first frame is labelled “what we say to dogs” and the woman is saying “You were so naughty and you’d better not do that again, Fifi.” (or something like that) And the second frame is labelled “what dogs hear us say” and the woman says “blah blah blah Fifi.” Hmm. And there was the one with the two deer, one of which has a bullseye on his side – the second deer says “Bummer of a birthmark, Hal.” 🙂

Kristin – I forgot about Zits. It’s fun too.

Yes, lots of bad grammar in PBS, SandyH, but that crocodile just cracks me up.

Hi Darla – how nice to see you again!

  7. Charles Schultz’s Charlie Brown is the strip I love most. I think it still holds up, despite being 50+. I also seek out Lynn Johnston’s For Better or Worse.
Some of the “new” comics seem a bit mean-spirited; has anyone else wondered about that?
