PS: I don’t know if you have heard the song “Let it Rock” by Kevin Rudolf but every time I hear that song I think of the Pyr, especially Erik 🙂

And here’s a dumb thing – I forgot to put the links on this post when it posted this morning. So, I’ve added them in – a click on either the title or the bookcover will take you to the page on my site for this book, with the link to the excerpt.

I really should have more coffee before posting!

  10. Michele – my editor said much the same thing. I don’t think she was that into Delaney before I wrote the book, but she loved his story. She says it’s her favourite, that she just gobbled it up.

Alcott – I have been reaaaaaalllllllly lucky with covers, that’s for sure!

Lisa – you are too funny. But, you’re right!

  11. The only question I have is where did you come up with the story of the beginnings of the Pyr? I was told of an old American Indian legend of how the Dragon wrapped himself around the Turtle so that she could stay warm and grow to become the earth. It’s a lot more detailed than that, but that’s the basics.
I have always believed that dragons existed and still do exist.
The way that you describe your Pyr is amazing! I have started a series of ceramic dragons painted per your descriptions.
Thanks for your sharing your talents!

  12. Hi Buck –

What’s really interesting about dragons is that they appear in the mythology of so many cultures. I like your story and will have to look it up.

I made up the history of the Pyr, after reading a lot of mythology. What appealed to me was the Chinese idea of associating dragons with each of the four elements, and I blended that with the Western idea of dragons guarding treasures. What better treasure than the earth itself?

Your ceramic dragons sound interesting. btw, if you’re planning to sell them as representations of the Pyr, there might be licensing issues as the Pyr (their colours, names, traits etc.) are protected by my copyright. You could talk to my agent about licensing if that’s your direction – there’s a link to his email on my bio page.

OTOH, if they’re part of your inspiration for your personal work (i.e. not for resale/profit) then there’s no licensing issue. Corinne, for example, had mentioned that she might knit herself socks in colours to match the scales of her favourite Pyr – that’s inspiration for personal enjoyment and creative expression.

    Thanks for your post!

  13. The only work that I sell is my bead and leather work. My paintings are for myself, ESPECIALLY my dragons. It would be like selling a piece of myself if I even thought about selling them. Your dragons are a creation of your own and I respect that. I only made one and if you’d rather I didn’t continure, I can stop. I could also take the one that I have done and redo the paint job as it has not had the finish put on it yet. I’m sure that he is probably a far cry from your vision though. The mold doesn’t have scales, and it’s a hatchling just coming out of it’s shell. Let me know, and I will do whatever you ask.
Either way, I’d like to add you to my web page as one of my favorite authors. Would you allow this?

  14. Hi Buck –

I don’t have any issues with your being inspired by my Pyr to create your own artwork. It sounds as if this is an expression just for yourself. And certainly, you can link to my site from yours.

It’s merchandising that requires licensing agreements – sorry that I didn’t understand initially what your plan was.

What’s your website url? (If you put a link in your reply, the comment will go to moderation so don’t be surprised that it doesn’t appear immediately.)
