Dragonfire #4

,

I promised that I would tell you who the hero of Dragonfire #4 is, AFTER you’d read KISS OF FATE. And you’ve done that now, haven’t you?

If you haven’t, STOP reading this post right now.

I’ll give you a minute to decide.

And another…

And one more…

So, if you’re still reading, you chose to know! The hero of Dragonfire #4 is Delaney. If you’re surprised, that’s okay – I was surprised too. After all, I thought he was dead in KISS OF FIRE. Then I thought he was lost in KISS OF FURY when he turned up for Donovan’s firestorm. Then, he chose to exile himself in KISS OF FATE rather than hurt the Pyr and I realized that he was hero material.

I also realized that if Donovan’s firestorm started Delaney’s healing process, then only one thing could complete his recovery – his own firestorm. I just needed the right woman for the job.

Well, enter Ginger Sinclair. This is not a woman who will back down from a challenge, or worry about the odds being against her.

WINTER KISS will be out in November. We’re working on the cover copy now, and I’m anxious to see what the cover is like. There’s one excerpt in the back of KISS OF FATE, and there will be a different one on my site when I get everything together.

For now, I give you the first out-take. This is a scene from the Prologue to WINTER KISS that was cut from the final book. I like it, though, and I think you’ll like it too.

It’s right HERE.

  2. Thanks for sharing, what a great excerpt! The downside is, waiting for November will feel even longer LOL

  3. Thank you so much for letting us read the excerpt! November can’t get here soon enough! Oh and I noticed you updated who #5 and #6 will be. Very excited to see Rafferty’s story will be coming to us 🙂 Granted it will be a year from now, but still excited! As I read each story I was hoping he would be next to have a firestorm. Oh and I wanted to tell you, I heard a song “Let it Rock” by Kevin Rudulph. Every time I hear the song I think of the Pyr, especially Erik. If you ever get a chance to listen to let me know what you think.

  6. Hi, I have to say that I loved Kiss of Fate! It was just awesome and I can’t wait for the next one in November. I just thought I would ask if in the excerpt at the back of the Kiss of Fate at the bottom of page 403 I believe (not positive on the page number) I noticed that instead of Delaney it said Donovan and i was just wondering if that was a typo. Also the ability to only have one part of therer body in dagon form is only acheiveable after drinking the elixer then how was Quin able to just shift his thumb in Kiss of Fire when showing Sara in the book store? I don’t know but once again i loved Kiss of Fate just like the others and can’t wait to read the next.

    Looking forward to November,
    Lendell

  7. Hi Lendell –

I should get you to proof read for me! You did find a typo in the excerpt. We caught it in the book, too.

Ah, the thumbnails. Some of the Pyr can shift only part of their bodies, even if they haven’t drunk the Elixir — it tends to happen involuntarily (during puberty, for example) and is frightening to both the Pyr and the humans around them. Mastering and controlling that change is how Quinn responded to what happened to him, but there are other Pyr (like Erik) who believed it was impossible to linger between forms. Erik was always either dragon or human – the only variable was the speed of change.

Hovering between forms, though, is key to Slayers who have drunk the Elixir being able to cut smoke. Magnus thus sets it as a test for a Slayer (of that Slayer’s worthiness) before teaching that Slayer more.

One of the problems with the Pyr world is that they haven’t always talked to each other or about everything, so they sometimes have different assumptions about what is possible. So, Erik was shocked by Boris being able to hover between forms, while Quinn wouldn’t have been surprised. Hmm. Maybe it’s outsiders who discover those things, as they’re not working from the assumptions and expectations of the other Pyr – Erik, you remember, was always with the Pyr (his father etc.) while Quinn was always alone. Their world is also changing in this final challenge, and not always in predictable ways.

Does that make sense to you? In a way, it was easier for readers to have the first book be about a Pyr who was an outsider (and didn’t know how the Pyr world worked) but in another, it complicates things, because Quinn’s perspective isn’t always the same as everyone else’s.

You’ve given me something else to explain more clearly in the next book!

  9. Good, Lendell!

LOL on proofreading – the last time I see any book is about four months before publication, so it would really be a sneak peek!

Probably against the rules, though. I’ll count on hearing from you here. 🙂

  10. Oh well, I suppose I will have to live with waiting like everyone else, lol. I have to say though proofreading it would be fun. I can’t wait to get to read number #5, I have no doubt that it will be assume and waiting makes it all the more speacial when i do finally get to read it though, but it is still hard waiting.

  11. You books will be another worthy addition to my collection of much loved authors. I am truely excited about your upcoming books on Delaney, Niall & Rafferty……I know I’m jumping the gun here…..but will you be working on any stories for Nicholas and Sophia?…..I got the impression from “Kiss of Fury” that there may be something there for these two. I am aware that these things take time and we all need to have patience. Your DragonFire Novelseries will be a much loved addition to my on going collection. P.S I love dragons too. I have a collection of dragons, created by M.Pena that remind me of your Dragonfire series. To view these dragons check out the Windstone Editions website. They certainly have personality.

  12. You know, Lendell, no matter how fast I type, I can’t write a book as quickly as you can read it! That means waiting is just part of the game. Glad you’re loving the series.

Hi Janet – Thanks for stopping by to comment. I’m glad you’re enjoying the series too! Nikolas and Sophie aren’t done with each other yet, but I don’t want to spoil their story for you. Don’t worry, there’s more to tell and I won’t forget them.

One of the things that’s fun about moving through time with the series is following the stories of the characters who have already had their firestorm. It will get more challenging with each book to update you on everybody, but I’m having fun with it. WINTER KISS is the first book in which the children of Quinn and Donovan and Erik make appearances, for example. My editor loves that part, and I suspect you’ll all like it too.
