More Paperback Editions

Bad Case of Loving You, book #6 in the Flatiron Five series of contemporary romances by Deborah CookeUntil about two years ago, I was creating two editions of each of my paperbacks. One was published through Createspace (an Amazon company) and made available to Amazon stores. The other was published through Ingrams and made available everywhere else. The two editions were the same, except that there were slight differences in the width of the cover spine, probably because the two print-on-demand outlets use different paper for the interior pages. (At one point, I also created editions at Nook of some books for B&N stores, which also have slightly different spine widths, but don’t see enough sales on those editions to justify paying the designer to tweak the spine, so I’ve stopped doing them.)

About two years ago, Amazon began merging Createspace (the POD publishing platform) into KDP (the ebook publishing platform) which made a lot of sense. Many indie books are available in both POD and ebook, and creating both through the same portal, with the same metadata, and reporting sales for both in the same place was a good plan IMO. Also the Createspace interface was older. The KDP interface was being updated, so the print update was rolled into that. Authors could migrate their titles from Createspace to KDP. There were some (inevitable, in such a big transition) hiccups, but ultimately, Createspace was closed to new content.

Unicorn Bride, a medieval romance by Claire Delacroix, 2019 new editionSince then, I chose to create my print-on-demand editions only at Ingrams, and have them distributed everywhere. Another variable was that I’ve been creating mass market sized paperbacks and during the initial transition, KDP didn’t support this format although Createspace had.

Recently, writer friends have shared that their Ingrams-print edition is showing a delayed delivery on Amazon – of about 60 days. Also, the Ingrams editions aren’t eligible for free shipping through Amazon Prime, which is a big deterrent to Amazon Prime shoppers. So, this week, I added KDP print editions for the books that didn’t have them before, just for the Amazon stores. They’re all going live now, and as they do, the Amazon edition will replace the Ingrams edition on the same link in the Amazon store. (This is because they have the same ISBN.)

So, if you’re an Amazon Prime customer and you’ve been holding off on buying print copies of these titles for your keeper shelf, now’s the time!

The Dragonfire series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke in print editions

At the end of September, the Dragonfire Novels came out of KDP Select, which means that they’re available at all portals again (not just Amazon). I’ve also made Kiss of Fire a free series starter at all portals. This is a great time to meet the Pyr!

The Prometheus Project has also come out of KDP Select, so those four titles are also available at all portals again. Phew.

The Dragons of Incendium series of science fiction romances featuring dragon shifter princesses from space by Deborah Cooke. Now free to read in Kindle UnlimitedThe Dragons of Incendium have remained in KDP Select for another term, so if you are a Kindle Unlimited subscriber, you can read about those dragon shifter princesses from space free.

KDP Select and Dragons

I’ve enrolled several of my paranormal romance series into KDP Select this week, which means you can read them free in Kindle Unlimited.

First up, The Dragonfire Novels. This series is complete and features dragon shifter heroes on a quest to save the earth from evil Slayers – but destined love keeps complicating their mission.

Start the series with Kiss of Fire.

The Dragons of Incendium series featured dragon shifter princesses from space and the men bold enough to love them.

Rebel, #3 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah CookeI’ve also enrolled the Prometheus Project urban fantasy romance series, although there’s a bit of an issue with Fallen that Amazon is straightening out.

My Claire Delacroix time travel romances are currently enrolled in KDP Select.

You can read Coven of Mercy and An Elegy for Melusine free in KU right now.

And finally, my Secret Heart Ink series is also enrolled in KDP Select, although it’s just a teensy tiny heart tattoo that might have magical powers in that contemporary romance series.

Happy reading!

PNR in Kindle Unlimited

Fallen, #1 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah CookeI’m going to enroll some titles in Kindle Unlimited, which means that they have to be available exclusively at Amazon. I have a number of promotions booked this month, which will influence both the timing of series going into KU and (frankly) how many series go into the program.

I’ve decided that the Dragonfire Novels, the Dragons of Incendium and the Prometheus Project will definitely be enrolled, probably the first week of July.

Wyvern's Mate, book #1 in the Dragons of Incendium series of paranormal romances by Deborah CookeIt’s the paranormal and fantasy work that’s on the move. I plan to enroll my time travels in KU in July as well. I’m picking away at the unpublishing so you’ll see books disappearing from the various portals. Incendium, for example, is already unpublished at Nook and GooglePlay. There are collections in all three series included in a promotion at Kobo that goes through June 30, so they’ll be available there until that’s completed. The time travels are included in a promotion at Kobo that will run June 27 to July 4 so can’t move to KU until after that.

Coven of Mercy, a short story and vampire romance by Deborah CookeBut I’ve already started enrolling titles. The two short works linked to my dragon PNR series – Coven of Mercy and An Elegy for Melusine – are now enrolled in KU.

Beguiled has been unpublished from other portals and is available only at Amazon, because those two shorts are included in it, but that collection is not in KU.

Snowbound, #1 of the Secret Heart Ink series of contemporary romances by Deborah CookeSecret Heart Ink is also enrolled in KU now, and I’ve dropped the prices on all five of these books to 99cents, too.

I’m still thinking about my historical romances. We’ll see how this month’s sales go first.

If you’re missing any of these titles in your collection and prefer to shop at other portals than Amazon, this is a good chance to grab those books.

For Libraries

My books are available to libraries!

Digital editions of my books are available to libraries through Overdrive and Bibliotheca. This includes my new releases, as well as new editions of many backlist titles. I used to upload directly to Overdrive, but now am using Pronoun (a Macmillan company) to deliver to both of these library portals. Their interface is easier for me, so new releases will appear more quickly on Overdrive than they did before. I also like their version control better.

Print editions of my books are available to libraries through Ingrams. Some of my books are also available in hard cover editions from Ingrams. You can find them on the Collectors’ Editions page here on the site.

My audiobooks are available to libraries through Overdrive and Blackstone Library. Blackstone makes physical cd’s of my audiobooks for libraries, as well as offering digital download licensing.
