KOBO Plus is a reader subscription program, a lot like Kindle Unlimited. Readers subscribe to the service and authors are paid by pages read. The big difference for authors is that books don’t have to be available exclusively at KOBO in order to be enrolled in the program.
Another difference is that KOBO rolls out this program by geographic territory. The original launch was for readers in the Netherlands, and it expanded to Belgium and to Canada. In April, KOBO Plus launched in Portugal. So far this month, KOBO Plus has launched in France, Italy, Australia and New Zealand.
I enroll my series starters and reader funnels in KOBO Plus to be available in all territories. When the program expands into a new geo, they’re immediately available to readers there. This includes Just One Fake Date, Just One Snowbound Night, Kiss of Fire, Fallen and Wyvern’s Mate.
I add the other books incrementally. Typically, KOBO Plus has a free trial period for readers in a new geo. This is great for readers, but not so great for authors, since there are no page reads paid in that period. So, I add my books to the program in that geo 90 days after the launch, or sometimes a bit later. Yesterday, I remembered to add my list to Portugal (I doubt there were a lot of readers there desperately awaiting my English content.)
I will make my books available to KOBO Plus in Australia, New Zealand, France and Italy in February.
Here’s the landing page for KOBO Plus for Canada. If it’s like other KOBO links, it will automatically redirect for your territory.
