    • Thank you DJ. Our holiday isn’t so happy this year. We had to say goodbye to our standard poodle “the Queen Bee” yesterday. She shared 13 years of joy with us, and today the house seems very empty.

I wish you and yours all the best, DJ, and am looking forward to the new year.

  1. Oh Deb, sorry to hear about your loss! And how awful to lose her during the Holiday Season! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and safe and Happy New Year. Perhaps a new furry addition to the family in the New Year?! Hot as hell here in OZ right now. One year I’d love to celebrate a cool Christmas.

    • Thanks Ang. We didn’t expect her to become so much worse so quickly. The strange thing was that I was corresponding with another writer about a joint project on Monday, and told her it would have to wait and why. She was writing me at the same time with the same message. We were both at our respective vets at 3, her with her 18 year old cat and us with our Jazz. Her son said the sweetest thing, though, that taking the pain away was the best Christmas gift she could have given the cat who’d given her so much joy. He’s right, and it’s hard, but it was right.

On a brighter note I can never wrap my mind around the idea of a hot Christmas. I’ve heard of people going to the beach for a barbeque at Christmas in Australia. We had an ice storm here, and many people in Toronto have no electricity in this cold weather. Going to the beach just doesn’t compute! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2014.

  2. Yes we have BBQ’s most years. Or cold lunch, with Cold Meats and Salads. Because its just too darn hot to sit down to a baked meal. And I guess it would seem very strange to you. But that’s all I’ve ever known. I have had cats all my life, but all animals leave such a big whole in your heart once they go. My current fur child is a blue tortoiseshell cat who thinks she’s a dog. And she has been my best friend when I split up from my husband and move to a new town to start my life again. Felt like she was the only friend I had in the world. And if not for her I’d don’t know where I’d be! Try to remember the good times with JAZZ! And know she is in a better place now.

Best wishes to you and your family.
