Under Construction

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve started to create pages and populate them, here on the blog. The idea is that all of my website stuff will be here, in one location, and my website urls will ultimately bring you here. There’s a dropdown menu for each of my writing names here, then booklists nested under each. I like how sleek the organization is. Recreating the book pages is going more quickly than I’d expected – who knew I could cut and paste not just copy but code between applications?! YAY! I still need to upload a batch of covers that are all the same size. Excerpts will be here, too, but that will likely be last. Until it’s all done, you’ll find omissions and gaps here.

Once all the data is here, the design may change slightly. The designer will have a better idea of what she’s got to accommodate when she can see it all. OTOH, I quite like it as it is, and might just forgo that step. We’ll see.

This site and the other two websites (http://www.delacroix.net and http://www.deborahcooke.com) will co-exist for a while. The next phase in the transition will be updating the links in the backs of my digital editions – the urls for the individual book pages change with this process, too. I’m not sure when I’ll do that, as it will be a tedious job. Once each book file is updated by the formatter, I’ll have to upload the new version to seven different portals, check it and publish it. All of the sites should continue to co-exist for a while after that, because readers will have editions of the books with the older links. There are about 25 book files in total right now, so I think I’ll save that job for the new year.

What do you think so far?

    • Thanks DJ!

I like this template a lot – it’s really crisp and legible. There’s a lot of content to move, though, so I’ll be taking it in stages. 🙂

  1. I really like it. I already found a few books that I don’t have by going back and forth between the sites 🙂 I also love the new newsletter since I’ve been a subscriber to that forever. Thanks for all your efforts in keeping us well-informed.

    • Thanks Dorine!

And how nice to cross paths with you again. I hope all is well with you. 🙂 Are you still reviewing?

  2. I’m doing great, Deb…thank you, and you? Yes, I’m still reviewing — I think it’s imbedded as a permanent part of my personality now. LOL

  3. Congratulations on the updated, fresh look! I’m delighted to see site content combined in one place, as I’ve been a visitor on your separate sites in the past. The design is a beautiful representation of your style as a writer as well as the personality of your various covers. Nicely done!

  4. One stop for Romance. Great idea to combine both your pen names. will make it so much easier to look and find all your books. 🙂 good luck with the process! hopefully having one site will make maintenance easier and less time consuming.

  5. I really like the new website. I actually prefer for authors with books under different names to have once central website — that way I don’t miss out on their other novels!!

I did notice a broken link. On the Coxwells page, when you click the link to Third Time Lucky, it tries to go to the following page. 😦

The link does work through the drop down menu though. 🙂

    • Ah, thank you, Glenda!

Originally, I was going to move the whole she-bang to wordpress.org, so built it there. Rebuilding it here made more sense, but exporting what had already been done meant the links were no good. I knew I’d miss a few, so thanks for pointing that one out.

      I’ll fix it now.

    • Congratulations, Glenda! You’ve won the contest for newsletter subscribers. Please check your email for a message from me.

  6. Love it!!!! Congratulations!!!
Nice and easy to follow, simple and elegant and I love the combination of the pen names makes it easier to follow.
And the Leave a reply section is working for me as a lot of sites you need facebook or some other pop up to comment and I have a lot of parts blocked so I cannot comment where I would like so Loveing this.

Cant wait to see the finished product

    • LOL Erica – I have a hatehateHATE relationship with Blogspot and its comment fields. It refuses to accept anything from me, so I can never comment on a Blogspot blog. (grrr) Very irritating when I’ve got a guest spot. So, I tried to keep it simple here. First time anyone posts, they have to be approved, but after that, there are no obstacles.

The less Facebook and Google know about what I’m doing online, the better, IMHO. 😉
