Cover Flats

Yippee! I received cover flats for Rafferty’s book, DARKFIRE KISS, last week from NAL.

They are gorgeous.

Cover flats are printed up by the publishing house for the sales team. They use them to solicit sales from key accounts, like bookstores, so the cover flats look like the actual covers. They always look better than the jpeg image – even though the image is the same – because the foil stamping and embossing is done on the cover flats. So, that type (the title and my name) which is grey on the jpeg that you can see on my site is shiny silver on the cover flat. Wow. It looks great. Also, you can see the back cover on the cover flat, because it is the entire cover, flat (i.e. not wrapped around a book). I think it’s neat when the art wraps around the spine, and I love those dragon manhole covers on the back cover of each of the Dragonfire titles.

The good news for all of you is that Rafferty is one step closer to being here…

  1. If the cover flat looks more awesome than the picture you posted earlier this is going to be one awesome cover!! You are lucky to have such a talented artist working with your covers.

  2. I think the cover looks awesome already but the foil stamping and embossing sounds great. Kuddos to your cover artist indeed.
