Fave Movies

Do you have a favourite movie? I have a whole bunch of them, and it’s interesting to analyze what’s similar between them. Recently, I found an old fave at the video store – do we still call them “video stores”, even though we rent DVD’s there now? Hmmm. – and brought it home for a spin.

ALL OF ME stars Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin. I remembered the physical comedy from it, which Steve Martin does so very well. It had been at least 15 years since I’d seen it, though, so there was a lot I’d forgotten.

What was fun when I watched it this time was realizing how crisp the character arcs are for the two protagonists. It’s a really well written script, and a romance, which explains why I like it so very well. (Duh.) Plus it was just fun.

What are your fave old movies? What do your fave movies have in common?

  1. There are movies that when I’m flipping channels on TV I’ll always stop to watch. A Few Good Men is one of them – partly for the eye candy and partly because the performances there (especially Jack Nicholson) are so very mezmerizing.

  2. Ones that I’ll watch over and over again:
    Grosse Pointe Blank.
    Chocolat
    The Quiet Man
    Sean of the Dead.

Why I watch them? John Cusick is always worth watching as an assassin with a moral code and to hubby and I, it’s a great romance.
Chocolat just because it speaks to me.
The Quiet Man– what’s not to love about Sean Thorton and the crew? 😉
Sean of the Dead is just plain fun, sick and wrong with the interchange between characters interesting and so odd.

I’ve only 700 dvds to choose from (since hubby collects) so I’m almost never without an option.

  3. Dear Deborah,
My apologies. I left you hanging without a reply and then misplaced your email address. Today I had the idea to contact you through your web site. Sorry it took so long.

  4. Any version of Pride and Prejudice. I also like old musicals but my favorite movie of all time is Casablanca.

  5. I’ve thought for a few days over this and I really can’t find a common thread in the movies I watch over and over. (Other then if there is romance involved then there is always a happy ending.)

In recent years the movies I have watched and rewatched most often would be…

~Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. (all of them)
    ~Hellboy
    ~Serenity
~Sean of the Dead (here I thought I was the only one! Yeah, I’m not alone.)
    ~Bulletproof Monk

Just a few I can think up off the top of my head. I have to thank you for bringing up “All of Me”. I had completely forgotten about that one. It’s a such a good film, that in turn reminded me of Roxanne which I loved as well. I need to buy new copies of those two LOL
