Spooky Special

Fallen, #1 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah CookeIt’s that time of year again! My urban fantasy romance, Fallen, which is book #1 of the Prometheus Project, is on sale for just 99 cents through November 10. If you haven’t read Lilia and Montgomery’s story yet, here’s your chance.

At the end of the 21st century, the future of humanity hangs in the balance, caught between the radioactive waste of a half century of nuclear wars and the repressive authority of the Republic. Angels sacrifice their wings to join a secret fraternity of freedom fighters, risking classification as mutants and consignment to the Republic’s slave dens. Each warrior is a volunteer, but no angel anticipates the full cost of his fall.

The eyes of the Republic are everywhere.

Lilia Desjardins has never played by the rules and she isn’t about to start when her estranged husband’s death is declared an accident. Lilia knows Gid better than that, and if anyone is owed justice, it’s the most decent man she’s ever known. She leaves all she knows to risk the dark heart of the Republic—only to discover that her deepest secret has been uncovered and will be used against her by forces unknown.

Adam Montgomery will do anything to complete his earthly mission and return to the existence he knows, even if he has to seduce the enigmatic Lilia Desjardins. But when his contact is murdered and he must rely upon Lilia’s silence to save him from the slave dens, Adam knows that his wings might be only his first sacrifice.

As danger and intrigue surround them, Lilia and Adam realize they must work together—body, mind and soul—in order to save the world.

“Beautifully written, intensely passionate and gripping, FALLEN grabbed me from the first sentence and didn’t let go. It’s Matrix, Blade Runner and Terminator rolled into a riveting love story and made better. Perfect. A must-read by an author who keeps you on the edge of your seat.”

Shiny New Books

The delivery guys have been good to me this week. I have shiny new books!

The Rogues of Ravensmuir medieval romances by Claire Delacroix in new trade paperback editions

The Jewels of Kinfairlie medieval romances by Claire Delacroix in new trade paperback editions

The Prometheus Project urban fantasy romances by Deborah Cooke in new trade paperback editions.
Not only do these editions have new covers, but the interiors have been updated, too. The historicals have pretty illuminated capitals at the beginning of each chapter, like this:

2016 updated print interior of The Snow White Bride, book #3 of the Jewels of Kinfairlie series of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix

You can order signed copies of these new editions in my online store. Here’s the series bundle for The Rogues of Ravensmuir and here’s the series bundle for The Jewels of Kinfairlie.

What do you think?

Signed Book Bundles

The Crusader's Handfast, #5 in the Champions of Saint Euphemia series of medieval romances by Claire DelacroixI’ve put together series bundles of print books in my online store and priced them at a discount. This is a good way to get a whole series in matching editions and formats, and to have them signed, too. Each series bundle comes with a free tote bag.

All prices in the store are in Canadian dollars, so there’s a discount in the currency conversion for those of you south of the border. I think the Canadian dollar is worth about 75 cents US these days, which looks like a 25% discount to me.

We also pack each order from the store with postcards and other goodies.

The Beauty Bride, first book in the Jewels of Kinfairlie series of medieval Scottish romances by Claire DelacroixIn the Series Bundles category of the store, you’ll find Bargain Bundles of Bargain Bundles of The Bride Quest II, The Coxwells, The Jewels of Kinfairlie, The Prometheus Project and The Rogues of Ravensmuir. You’ll also find Series Bundles of The Champions of St. Euphemia, The Jewels of Kinfairlie (with the new covers) and The True Love Brides Series.

If you like the mass market editions of my books (or the Berkley trade paperbacks of The Coxwells), be sure to look in the Collectors’ Editions category of the store. Buy three or more books from any department and I’ll include a free tote bag – so if you build your own series, you’ll still get a bag to carry them in.

New Covers for My Angels

The Prometheus Project has new covers, which actually are new versions of their original covers.

Yes, that makes sense. Read it again. 🙂

Here’s what happened. When Fallen, Guardian, and Rebel were originally published, TOR commissioned cover illustrations from artist Larry Rostant. I loved these images and the resulting covers. Here they are:

Fallen, book #1 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print mass market edition Guardian, book #2 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print mass market edition Rebel, book #3 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print mass market edition

When the right to publish the books reverted to me, I tried to contact Larry to find out if I could license the illustrations for the new images. I didn’t have any luck finding him, though. (My message probably went to spam.) So, I had Kim Killion design new covers with stock photographs. I decided to try something different and focus on the heroines for the covers—a strong tradition in urban fantasy romance—and these are the covers:

Fallen, an urban fantasy romance by Claire Delacroix Guardian, an urban fantasy romance by Claire Delacroix Rebel, an urban fantasy romance by Claire Delacroix

There also were two additional covers, one for Tupperman’s store, Abyss, and one for the digital bundle of the entire series:

Abyss, an urban fantasy romance by Claire Delacroix The Prometheus Project Boxed Set of urban fantasy romances by Claire Delacroix

Fast forward to last spring. I saw a beautiful cover illustration on Pinterest, pinned by Larry Rostant. It was one of his newer works, and just beautiful. I tried to contact him again, and this time, it worked! I licensed the three images for my editions of the first three books. I hired Frauke Spanuth to create the covers (the illustrations have no type on them) and asked if she could possibly come up with something similar for Tupperman’s book, Abyss. Well. She knocked it out of the park, as far as I’m concerned.

I also took this opportunity to change the author name on the books. Although TOR wanted to publish the series as Claire Delacroix books, and I thought at the time that Claire might focus on urban fantasy from that point onward, it hasn’t worked out that way. Claire is writing and publishing medieval romance, so these books look out of place on her list. Deborah, though, is writing a lot of paranormal romance. Urban fantasy romance isn’t quite the same, but it makes more sense for the angels to be with the dragons than with the knights.

Here are the new covers for my fallen angel books:

Fallen, #1 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah Cooke Guardian, #2 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah Cooke Rebel, #3 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah Cooke Abyss, #4 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah Cooke

The book pages here on the website have moved to the list of Deborah Cooke books, too.

Expect the new editions to be available in your bookstore of choice in October. I’m not changing the ISBN#’s, but am just uploading these as new editions. (All the books already listed both Deborah and Claire as authors in their metadata.) You should be able to download the new editions if you’ve bought the earlier ones. And yes, that means more print books in the sale bin at my online store.

What do you think of the new covers?

Raffle Baskets

I’ve packed my raffle baskets for Lori Foster’s Reader-Author Get-Together, which will be next weekend near Cincinnati, Ohio. I’m taking three baskets.

First is the True Love Brides basket. This one includes trade paperback copies of all of the Jewels of Kinfairlie trilogy, plus The Renegade’s Heart and The Highlander’s Curse. It also includes a Kinfairlie cross, which features in The Frost Maiden’s Kiss, coming in August. And there’s a True Love Brides hoodie, too.

Second is the Prometheus Project basket. This one includes trade paperback copies of all four books in the Prometheus Project. It also includes Lilia’s timepiece, so the winner doesn’t miss the end of the world as we know it. There’s a Prometheus Project tote bag in this one, too.

And third is the Dragonfire basket. This one includes trade paperback copies of The Dragon Legion Collection and Serpent’s Kiss, as well as a trade paperback copy of Flying Blind and mass market copies of both Kiss of Fire and Ember’s Kiss. There are Dragonfire earrings in Thorolf’s colourway, some Dragonfire temporary tattoos and a Dragonfire tote bag, too.

I also have a couple of Serpent’s Kiss tote bags and some more Dragonfire earrings in Thorolf’s colourway to give away. If you’re going to the conference, be sure to say hello! It’s going to be a lot of fun!

Go South

Take a look over on the sidebar and you’ll see the link for Coastal Magic 2015. This reader conference will be in February in Daytona Beach Florida, which is not a bad place to be in February (even if it rains that weekend, as it did this year. You don’t have to shovel rain.) The conference focuses on paranormal romance and urban fantasy, and it’s a lot of fun. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the chance to chat with fans. It’s not a huge conference (like RT or RWA) which makes it more casual. I’ll be a featured author again at the conference next February and would love to see some of you there.

The list of attending authors will be posted in June, and registration opens July 1. Have a think about coming south next winter and being part of the fun.

New Swag – Jewelry

This new swag was also inspired by Coastal Magic Reader Conference. They had a number of vendors there, Including Leslie’s shop Aunt Matilda’s Jewelry Box with wonderful steampunk-medieval-pirate jewelry. I bought a pair of dragon earrings, and on the way home had an idea. Leslie was excited about it and so we have Dragonfire Earrings.

Dragonfire Earrings

Leslie created these earrings to match the colors of the Pyr. The earrings have Czech glass crystals that catch the light. From the top left, we have Quinn, Donovan and Erik. In the second row from left we have Delaney, Niall and Rafferty. In the third and last row, we have Lorenzo, Brandon and Thorolf. Leslie has written the name of the appropriate Pyr on the back of the earring card in silver ink.

And not to forget our special girl, the star of the Dragon Diaries and the Wyvern-to-be, here’s earrings for Zöe:

Zöe the Wyvern heroine of The Dragon Diaries by Deborah Cooke

Leslie also created some medieval jewelry for me for Kinfairlie. Look at this necklace, which I’m calling the Kinfairlie Cross and will be using for promotion for the True Love Brides Series. It’s quite large, more than four inches long, and the faceted stones are a beautiful shade of aquamarine. (They look a bit paler in the picture). Any of the sisters of Kinfairlie could have a necklace like this – I might need to write it into Elizabeth and Malcolm’s books!

Kinfairlie Cross

Finally, Leslie created a Prometheus Project watch for me. It’s a bit steampunk, but has angel wings too – I can easily imagine Lilia wearing this:

Prometheus Project timepiece

I’ll be using these as prizes in contests and also in raffle baskets, but you’ll also be able to buy them directly from Leslie’s Etsy store. She’s created a page for the Dragonfire earrings, right here, where you can easily order a pair of earrings in the colors of your favorite Pyr. There’s also a listing for the Kinfairlie cross, and another one for the Prometheus Project steampunk crystal ball watch.

What do you think? I love them all!

Psst – there will be a contest for newsletter subscribers in May, with shiny prizes. Hmm. I wonder what those prizes could be…
