ONCE UPON A KISS Reader Letter

Once Upon a Kiss, a Scottish paranormal romance by Claire DelacroixDear Reader;

Once Upon a Kiss is a time travel and romantic comedy which was originally published under my pseudonym Claire Cross, by Berkley in their Magical Love imprint in 1998. It was the first book with a contemporary setting that I ever sold, and also the first book that I sold to a publisher other than Harlequin. Because of that, it will always be a milestone book for me.

I wrote four books for Berkley – two for the Time Passages imprint and two for the Magical Love imprint. The titles were Once Upon a Kiss, The Last Highlander, The Moonstone and Love Potion #9. These books were creative milestones in another way. When I look at them now, I can see that writing these books gave me the opportunity to play with humor more, and to work on balancing comedy and tragedy. I had a lot of fun writing these books and am pleased to be able to make them available to readers once more. All four books are available in new digital editions and new trade paperback print editions. There is also a digital boxed set, including all four of these time travel romances at a special price.

As with all of my digital re-releases, I’ve chosen not to revise this book, but to republish it pretty much the way it was published in the first place. Although I’ve learned a few things about storytelling and writing in the past fourteen years, I like the work as it stands.

In other news, I’ve returned to Scotland in my books and am happily writing medieval romance again. The Renegade’s Heart, the first book in a new four-book series called The True Love Brides, will be published in May 2012. This new series picks up the story from my Jewels of Kinfairlie series, following four more of the siblings at Kinfairlie as they meet their romantic matches and find their happily-ever-afters. The Renegade’s Heart is Isabella’s story and I’m very excited to have the chance to finally tell her tale. Visit my website for more information about this series and other upcoming releases.

I’ve enjoyed revisiting Once Upon a Kiss, and hope you enjoy reading it, as well.

Until next time, I hope you are well and have plenty of good books to read.

All my best,
Claire

LOVE POTION #9 Reader Letter

Love Potion #9, a paranormal romance by Claire DelacroixDear Reader –

Love Potion #9 was one of four of my books that were published by Berkley in 1998 and 1999, using my pseudonym Claire Cross. All of these books are romantic comedies with paranormal elements. Readers tell me that all of these Berkley titles have become hard to find in print – their requests are the reason for these re-releases. All four books are now available in new digital and print editions.

The other four books I published under my Claire Cross pseudonym are different – they are either contemporary romances or mainstream books with romantic elements, depending who you ask. Those books – the Coxwell Series – will be re-published this year as well. Look for Third Time Lucky, Double Trouble, One More Time and All or Nothing in new digital and print editions, beginning this summer.

Although I like each book that I’ve written, Love Potion #9 has a special place in my heart. It was the first romance I sold which was solidly set in the present day. Previous to this, I had written historical romances, as well as two time travels for Berkley.

It’s also a book that I like because of the structure – about halfway through the writing of this book, I decided to name each chapter after one card in the higher arcana of a tarot deck. This made sense, as Lilith, the heroine, reads tarot cards. But I also wanted the action of each chapter to reflect the meaning of the governing card in order for that structure to make sense. This was a creative challenge, but I was – and am – very proud of the result.

The original edition had a beautiful cover illustration by artist Judy York, showing Lilith surrounded by monarch butterflies, which is evocative of a scene in the book. I was very happy to be able to license that same image from Judy for this re-release and thank her again for that opportunity.

One of the great temptations in revisiting a previously published work is that of revising the book. Of course, authors hone their skills over time and there are things I would do differently if I wrote this story now for the first time. There is still a lot that I would do the same way with this book, though, so other than correcting a few errors, I have not made any revisions. This edition of Love Potion #9 is essentially the same as the original printed edition.

I hope that you enjoy Mitch and Lilith’s story.

Until next time, I hope you are well and have plenty of good books to read.

 All my best,
Claire

THE WARRIOR Reader Letter

The Warrior, book #3 in the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottich medieval romances, by Claire DelacroixDear Reader;

The Warrior was a book that captured my heart from the first moment that the Hawk and Aileen’s story came to me. I love reincarnation romances, and I particularly enjoy a skeptical hero who learns to believe in things he can’t see. The hero of this book, the Hawk, is both pragmatic and practical, while his partner, Aileen, is the daughter of a woman who was psychic but deemed to be mad. I had a wonderful time writing their story and watching love heal their respective wounds.

This story is the third book in my Rogues of Ravensmuir series, each of which features a strong hero. As with all of my re-releases, I’ve chosen not to revise this book, but to republish it essentially as it was published in the first place. All three of the Rogues of Ravensmuir medieval romances are now available in both new digital editions and new print editions like this one. The linked series, The Jewels of Kinfairlie, is already available in new print and new digital editions.

I’ve recently returned to Kinfairlie and Ravensmuir and am happily writing medieval romance again. I have missed medieval Scotland these past few years! The Renegade’s Heart is Isabella’s story. It’s wonderful to have the chance to finally tell her tale.

In preparing these new editions, I fell in love with Merlyn, Gawain and the Hawk all over again. I hope that you enjoy reading their stories as much as I loved writing them.

Until next time, I hope you are well and have plenty of good books to read.

All my best,
Claire
