The Bride Quest

As I told you recently in Exciting News, the rights to my original Bride Quest trilogy have reverted to me. The trilogy includes The Princess, The Damsel and The Heiress. This means that I’m in the midst of creating new editions of these books for publication, which means that they need new covers.

The Princess, book #1 of the Bride Quest trilogy of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix  The Damsel, book #2 of the Bride Quest trilogy of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix  The Heiress, book #3 of the Bride Quest trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix

I decided this was an excellent opportunity to update the covers of the second Bride Quest as well—The Countess, The Beauty and The Temptress—so that the whole series has similar graphical branding.

The Countess, book #1 in the Bride Quest II trilogy of Scottish medieval romances, by Claire Delacroix  The Beauty, book #2 of the Bride Quest II trilogy of Scottish medieval romances and a NYT bestselling title, by Claire Delacroix  The Temptress, book #3 of the Bride Quest II trilogy of Scottish medieval romances, by Claire Delacroix

As of today, the house has removed their digital editions from sale, so it’s time to move forward!

My plan is to relaunch the first Bride Quest in August. I’m in the midst of removing the digital editions of the second Bride Quest trilogy from sale, so that I can relaunch the whole series with shiny new covers and updated interiors.

The new covers will be revealed in my May newsletter.

So, if you’re looking for these titles, don’t think your eyes are deceiving you. They’ll be back!

A New Site for Romance

Lots of changes in the wind with this one, which is why it took a bit longer. I’ve updated the Glossary of Terms at the Dragons of Incendium website, plus added A Brief History of Incendium and a Cast of Characters to the menu of Guides to Incendium.

The next short story in the series will be Kraw’s Secret, and the next book will be Wyvern’s Outlaw. (You’ll understand that after you read Wyvern’s Warrior!)

The print edition of Wyvern’s Warrior will include Kraw’s Secret, so will be available soon.

And The Dragons of Incendium: The First Collection (including Wyvern’s Mate, Nero’s Dream, Wyvern’s Prince, Arista’s Legacy, Wyvern’s Warrior and Kraw’s Secret) in trade paperback will be coming soon, as well.

More information on all of these upcoming releases when I have the covers to show you.

This ‘n That

It’s been quiet on the blog this week, because I’ve had a deluge of things that need doing – when they’re things other than writing, we might as well call them this ‘n that. Once upon a time, there were never very many of these things landing on my desk, but now that I’m also my publisher, they seem to be breeding like the bunnies who lurk under my hydrangea bush. There are always more!

What kind of things qualify as this ‘n that?

• This week, there have been covers. Covers are pretty exciting to me, more exciting than most this ‘n that. I have covers for a new medieval trilogy to show you and also more Dragons of Incendium covers. Newsletter subscribers get to see them first, so you might want to subscribe. 🙂

The Crusader's Handfast, #5 in the Champions of Saint Euphemia series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix• Covers mean pre-orders. I’ve been setting up a number of them at various portals – look! There’s The Crusader’s Handfast at Amazon live this morning! – which means a lot of uploading and processing. That means adding new links to the website, too.

• Covers also mean formatting. I’ve been sending book files and cover files and metadata to my formatter, and she’s been sending book files back to me.

• Covers also mean setting up interior files for print books. I used to be a typesetter, so I enjoy this flavor of this ‘n that.

• Covers also mean new swag! Yay! I ordered some new postcards and bookmarks this week, and you’ll be able to see them first in my August newsletter. (I hope they arrive by then.)

• New covers also mean new banners for the site, the newsletter and the Facebook pages. I should update some of the other social media banners, too.

Wyvern's Mate, book #1 of the Dragons of Incendium series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke, in audio• Audio! The audio edition of Wyvern’s Mate is available for pre-order for September 13 delivery. I had to think about the short stories and what to do with them. We’re going to keep it simple and record them individually. Nero’s Dream will go into audio production at the same time as Wyvern’s Prince, probably later this month.

• I like to hang charms on bookmarks for special occasions and had no inventory. I caught up on the Flatiron Five bookmarks and the Champions of Saint Euphemia ones, before the new ones arrive.

Spellbound, a Regency romance anthology by Claire Delacroix, Jane Charles and Claudia Dain• Then there have been edits, which technically are writing, but tend to feel like this ‘n that. I’ve finished my edits on Something Wicked This Way Comes, my contribution to the Spellbound anthology. I’ll give you some sneak peeks of that over the next few weeks. (You know what I’m going to say – newsletter subscribers will see more first. You might want to subscribe!)

• We’ve been updating digital book files with new end matter and front matter, as well as fixing some typos. The Jewels of Kinfairlie new editions went out with the new covers. The time travel romances have been updated in their print editions and the digital ones are half-done. (I’ll tell you when the new files are all uploaded.) And we’ve started on The Coxwell Series. The books need their table of contents moved to the front for Amazon now, and the end matter hasn’t been updated for two years. It’s also a good opportunity to change the covers, if I have plans to do that. I’m very happy with the new covers for The Jewels of Kinfairlie: The Prometheus Project will be getting new covers, too.

• I’ve been working on the newsletter, adding bits and pieces as I think of them. My VA Chelle is on vacation for part of this month, so I’m doing most of the newsletter. I’m always sure I’ll forget something! (This is going to be a long newsletter. Have you subscribed yet? LOL.)

• There’s a book sale coming up later this month, which means arranging for price changes to happen in time, and also booking some promotion to spread the news about the sale.

The Crusader's Vow by Claire Delacroix, book #4 in the Champions of Saint Euphemia series of medieval romances.• And then there’s writing. I’m working on Wyvern’s Prince and having a wonderful time with Gemma and her unexpected ally. Next up, I have to finish The Crusader’s Vow. (Back to Scotland for the big finish of the Champions of St. Euphemia. Yay!)

Phew! It’s going to be a busy fall, but a fun one.

• I also made a spreadsheet for myself of all the upcoming releases and updates to current book files. There are a lot of things in the works that I can’t tell you about yet – but the plan takes me through 2019 at this same kind of hectic pace.

Stay tuned. Things are starting to get interesting. 🙂

New Release Alert

I’ve been thinking (too much) about newsletters lately. As I get busier, I tend to prefer newsletters that get right to the point. Although I already have a monthly newsletter, which always ends up full of content and longer than I anticipated it would be, it seemed possible that some of you might like something shorter and sweeter.

So, today, I’ve set up a new Yahoo group called Deborah’s New Releases. If you subscribe to this Yahoo list, you’ll get an email on the on-sale date of any new book. It’ll include the cover, the description, the series information and the buy links, and you’ll only get it the once.

You can subscribe to either the monthly newsletter list or the new release alert, or you can subscribe to both of them.

The sign-up for my monthly newsletter sign-up is here.

Following Authors

There’s a nifty new way for you to keep track of your favorite authors which I wanted to share with you today. First off, though, let’s review the available options.

• Earlier this year, Amazon introduced Follow buttons on the author pages on their site. On every author profile on Amazon, there’s an orange button under the author’s picture. You can click on this to follow the author. What exactly does this mean? I’m not sure. Sometimes, I’m invited by Amazon to send a personal message to you when I have a new release. Sometimes, I’m not. I always do it (and I do it right away) but I have no idea when or if you receive it (much less whether all of you who have followed me will ever receive it). You can follow me on Amazon as Deborah Cooke or as Claire Delacroix (or both!)

• There’s a new option for you to keep up with authors. This week, BookBub introduced a new capacity for their author profile pages. These were introduced earlier this year, I think to ensure that readers didn’t miss a sale title by a favorite author. Beginning in January, though, if you follow an author on BookBub, you’ll receive an email notification whenever that author has a new release. Currently, this is providing US buy links for US readers, but I’d be surprised if it didn’t expand into other territories. BB says they’ll send a message within a certain number days of the on-sale date of every new release. Right now, I have only a BookBub profile for my Claire Delacroix books.

• You can also subscribe to an author’s newsletter (here’s mine) or follow the author’s blog (the sign up is in the right sidebar.) This is the easiest way to make sure you’re getting all the news from your favorite authors.

Here’s one last wrinkle for you – if you subscribe to the author’s newsletter, be sure to add the specified email address to your address book, too. A number of servers (gmail.com and aol.com are particularly inclined this way) are tending to perceive author newsletters as spam. Make sure you get the first newsletter when you sign up, and that it isn’t in your spam folder. Once your mail software is trained to accept the newsletter as something you want to see, then you’ll be keeping up to date easily with all the news.

As always, happy reading!

The Warrior’s Prize – on sale today!

The Warrior's Prize, a medieval romance by Claire Delacroix and book #4 in the True Love Brides SeriesToday’s the day – and it’s early, a Christmas present from me to you! The Warrior’s Prize, which is Elizabeth’s book and the final book in my medieval romance series, The True Love Brides, is available today!

The maiden was just another treasure to be won—until she stole his heart and changed his life forever.

Outraged that her beloved brother’s soul is to be the Fae tithe to Hell, Elizabeth knows that she must save him. She is the only one in her family who can see the Fae, after all, and is already cursed by their king herself. Malcolm may have offered to replace his comrade out of honor, but Elizabeth knows who better deserves to live—and it is not the handsome rogue, Rafael, who is concerned with his own welfare alone. It should be easy to make a wager with a mercenary, especially as Elizabeth does not care about the cost to herself. To her surprise, though, Rafael proves to be the man who not only takes her dare, but banishes the Fae king’s curse with kisses that turn her blood to fire. Could this hardened warrior, who appears to have no heart, be the destined love she has awaited?

At first glimpse, Rafael believes Elizabeth to be an angel sent to judge him—and he knows what her verdict will be. He has made choices in order to survive, and is not proud of them. But Elizabeth dares him to change, with an audacity that awakens a nobility of purpose that Rafael has forgotten he possessed. Can this bold maiden heal the wounds of his past? Can Rafael earn the right to grant her the life she deserves—and do so before the Fae king springs his trap, making Elizabeth his captive forever?

Notifications

There’s another new way for you to get news about your favourite authors.

I told you a few weeks ago about the new feature available at Amazon on their author pages. You can now click to be notified when any author has a new book released. There’s more detail about this, as well as links to my Amazon author pages, in my post from November.

Also, as of this week, BookBub has added a feature for subscribers – if you are a BookBub subscriber, you can ask to me notified when a specific author has a new BookBub promotion. This is supposed to work even if you unsubscribe from BookBub, so it must be a separate newsletter list. You can read more about the Author Follow feature on their blog right here.

I think it’s great that portals are finally simplifying the process of having readers know what authors are up to. You might not want to subscribe to a lot of author newsletters, and you know that you will go back to your sales portal of choice or to a favourite promotion site. What do you think of these features? Are you using them, or do you plan to?

Amazon Author Pages

Amazon is one of the few portals that offers a page for each author published there. On the Amazon author page, you’ll find info about the author, a list of his or her books, and often a feed from the author’s blog (like this one. Hello, Amazon peeps!) They recently redesigned the author pages and among the new features is an Add to Favorites button.

If you click on this – and you’ll probably need to be signed into your Amazon account – you’re opting in to be notified of that author’s new releases. I think this is a really cool feature, so wanted to be sure you knew about it. The button is right under the author photo.
