New Time Travel Covers

My two time travel romances, The Last Highlander and The Moonstone, have new covers!

These two books were originally published by Berkley in their Time Passages line. Here are the original mass market covers – these are digital photographs of the actual books, so the colors aren’t as saturated as on the real book covers. (Imagine. We didn’t get jpegs of our covers in those days!)

The Last Highlander, a Scottish time travel romance by Claire Delacroix (writing as Claire Cross), out of print mass market edition The Moonstone, a time travel romance by Claire Delacroix (writing as Claire Cross), out of print mass market edition

These were the first books that I republished in new editions when I started to go indie. They were also the first covers that I had a cover artist design. These are the covers they’ve had since 2011:

The Last Highlander, a Scottish time travel romance by Claire Delacroix The Moonstone, a time travel romance by Claire Delacroix

I thought they were due for an update, so Kim and I went back to the drawing board. We decided to return to the “guy alone”, since these books aren’t that sexy, and to get rid of the clock. The time travel would be shown by the two locations, one modern and one medieval, behind the guy. Here are the new covers:

The Last Highlander, a Scottish time travel romance and romantic comedy by Claire Delacroix The Moonstone, a time travel romance and romantic comedy by Claire Delacroix

The new editions have been uploaded to all of the various portals. If you bought the books before, you should be able to download the new edition free. That might even happen automatically. If you can’t get it, please contact customer support at the portal.

New Bride Quest II Editions

The new digital editions of the Bride Quest II books are now available! This latest update includes The Temptress and the Bride Quest II Boxed Set. The Countess and The Beauty were already updated. I’ve added them all to my online store, too.

The Temptress, book #6 of the Bride Quest series of medieval romances by Claire DelacroixEsmeraude of Ceinn-beithe knows that she alone can name the winner of her heart. To the knights gallant who ride from afar to do her bidding, she issues a challenge: a riddle that is both quest and test. And then she flees, daring her suitor to follow. Thus begins the Bride Quest of Bayard of Villonne, to compete for the hand of a woman he has never seen…

Newly returned from the Crusades, Bayard has warned his family of a pending attack upon their estate. When they pay no heed to his message, he swears to protect the family holding himself…even if its price is a marriage of convenience. It seems a simple matter to win the hand of a rural maid in a barbarian contest — until the chase begins. Esmeraude’s challenge makes her far more intriguing than Bayard had dared to hope.

But when he follows her across the waters and rescues a tattered, ravishing damsel in disguise, he knows he has found her. Recklessly, she offers herself to the handsome stranger. But not even a passion that touches both their souls can win her hand. For Esmeraude will settle for nothing less than total surrender of the crusader’s worn and weary heart…a treasure Bayard is determined to keep shielded forever.

“A magical tale…brims with rich, historical detail, entertaining banter and romantic tension.”

The Bride Quest II Boxed Set by Claire DelacroixThree fairy tale medieval Scottish romances in one digital bundle, from the “Queen of Medieval Romance”!

In The Countess, Eglantine flees to a remote Scottish holding, in order to give her daughters the chance to marry for love, only to find an alluring highlander insisting Kinbeath is his possession. Duncan suggests a handfast, intending to win the heart of the alluring noblewoman during that year and a day, but Eglantine is determined to resist him, at all costs.

The Bride Quest II Boxed Set by Claire DelacroixIn The Beauty, Jacqueline chooses to join a convent instead of marry, only to be abducted by a scarred crusader intent upon avenging himself upon Duncan. Little does Angus realize that he has seized the wrong maiden, much less that she will help him to reclaim his stolen estate and claim his wounded heart as well.

In The Temptress, Esmeraude challenges those knights seeking her hand to a bride quest, intending to wed only the most worthy of the contenders. Bayard’s ambitions are bound to his success, and he is not a knight whose heart is available to be claimed – but Esmeraude will accept no less than his all.

This digital boxed set includes all three medieval romances in the Bride Quest II trilogy: The Countess, The Beauty and The Temptress.

Angus and Kyle arrived yesterday afternoon in their print editions.

The Beauty, a medieval Scottish romance by Claire Delacroix, and Addicted to Love, a contemporary romance by Deborah Cooke, in print editions

Even though they were boxed up together for the trip, it looks as if they got along quite well. The books were in perfect condition! 🙂

These new print editions of The Beauty and Addicted to Love are available at booksellers, as well as in my online store.

This also means that everything has finally arrived for Romancing the Capital. Let the packing begin!

I LOVE these covers! What do you think?

The Rogues of Ravensmuir

There are new editions uploaded and available of my medieval Scottish romance trilogy, The Rogues of Ravensmuir. This is my first medieval romance series that introduces Ravensmuir and Kinfairlie. The books are a little bit Gothic, with dangerous heroes and a bit of intrigue.

You’ll know you have the current edition because it’ll have the new cover. 🙂

The new covers look like this:
The Rogue, book #1 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix   The Scoundrel, book #2 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix   The Warrior, book #3 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix   The Rogues of Ravensmuir Boxed Set of three medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix

Also, Fallen, book #1 of that series, is discounted to 99 cents right now.

New Covers for My Rogues

And yes, there are still MORE new covers to show you!

The Rogues of Ravensmuir series originally had “candy box” covers. This means they had no people on them: candy box covers have flowers or ribbons instead of people. The covers for this series were done by Alan Ayers and intended to evoke the style of the original Bride Quest covers, which he also designed. The difference was that the Bride Quest titles had step-back covers (well, the first five of them did) with the candy box on the outside and an image of the couple on the next page. This is kind of the best of both worlds—each reader gets the kind of cover image he/she prefers—but makes for an expensive book in production. It has two covers, and the second one (the step-back) has to be tipped into the finished book by hand. Step-back covers are also more inclined to be damaged in distribution, so they have a higher waste rate even when returned to the publisher for credit.

Here are Warner’s original covers for the mass market editions of The Rogue, The Scoundrel, and The Warrior:

The Rogue, book #1 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print mass market edition The Scoundrel, book #2 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print mass market edition The Warrior, book #3 in the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print mass market edition

When the rights to publish the books reverted to me, I wanted to have the heroes on the covers. I “met” Eithne O’Hanlon, a very talented illustrator, on Facebook and she offered to work on cover illustrations for me. This is when I learned that illustrators who create cover images for publishing houses don’t create the type. These are the covers that Eithne created for the books:

The Rogue, book #1 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print first trade paperback edition The Scoundrel, book #2 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print first trade paperback edition The Warrior, book #3 in the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print first trade paperback edition

I LOVED these images, but wasn’t as happy with the type. Hmm. I had a talk with Kim Killion, who has a wonderful talent for type, and she expressed concern about the amount of space left for the type. After attending a conference and hearing about the selling power of man-chest, I decided to redo these covers. This is the next generation of covers for this series, created by Kim Killion:

The Rogue, book #1 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix The Scoundrel, book #2 in the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottish medieval romances by Claire Delacroix The Warrior, book #3 in the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of Scottich medieval romances, by Claire Delacroix

By this point in time, Kim had created some lovely branding for Claire’s name, which is used consistently across the list. I loved the type on these and was happy with these covers. The magic selling power of man-chest didn’t happen for these books, though, and I think it’s because they’re not that sexy. Readers wanting a sexy read might not like the suspenseful Gothic medieval romance they get and readers wanting a suspenseful Gothic medieval romance wouldn’t expect it from these covers. So, we tweaked to make the covers better convey the books. Here are the new covers:

The Rogue, book #1 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix The Scoundrel, book #2 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix The Warrior, book #3 of the Rogues of Ravensmuir trilogy of medieval Scottish romances by Claire Delacroix

This also means that there are MORE print books in the sale bin in my online store.
