Overdrive and Blackstone

I’m in the midst of changing my Overdrive distribution. (le sigh) Overdrive is a portal that specializes in selling (or licensing) ebook and audio content to libraries. I’ve uploaded my content directly to Overdrive since 2012, although I’ve never loved their interface. Now, there are many other options available for getting content delivered there, all of which are easier to use. I’ve been on the fence about this, but have finally jumped off. 🙂

Since I use Draft2Digital to deliver to other library systems (Biblioteca and Baker & Taylor) I’ll be delivering my ebooks to Overdrive from there, too. There may be a short period of time during which they aren’t available at Overdrive, but all should be well by the end of the year. Transitions take time. It’s also possible that any reviews on Overdrive may not be transported to the new editions.

My audiobooks are also changing their distribution, as well. They’ll continue to be distributed to Apple, Amazon and Audible from Audible, but my contract with Blackstone will terminate on December 31. After that, my audiobooks will get to all other portals via Findaway Voices. So, the link at Kobo will probably disappear briefly then reappear with a new link. The content will be identical.

Once these transitions are completed, new ebook and audio titles will made available at all the subsidiary portals much more quickly. I’m hoping that the transitions will also fix some metadata errors, so fingers crossed.

The Rose Red Bride Blackstone Edition

The Rose Red Bride by Claire Delacroix, Blackstone audio edition

Another present in the mail yesterday!

This is the physical edition of The Rose Red Bride in audio, from Blackstone Audio. It’s available to libraries and also will be in physical distribution to bookstores. Use either the Downpour or the Blackstone link to order one, and change the option on the dropdown menu to CD’s. (It defaults to digital download.) It’s also interesting to me that Blackstone offers an audio rental option, through Downpour. Check that out on the Downpour product page!

The Blackstone Audio editions are also distributed to Barnes & Noble, so you can order them online from their site. The audio appears as another format option on the book product page – here’s the one for The Rose Red Bride at B&N.

Here’s a sample of the audiobook, narrated by Saskia Maarleveld, as well as the other buy links.

Audiobooks in Physical Distribution

I received a very cool package last week – actually, there were two packages. Here’s what was inside them:

Blackstone Audio editions of The Beauty Bride and The Rogue, medieval romances by Claire Delacroix

These are the physical DVD editions of my audiobooks, The Beauty Bride and The Rogue. I like that Blackstone offers an option other than downloading the files – they say that libraries like this format.

Buy at DownpourYou can pre-order these editions directly from Blackstone through their DownPour portal – that’s the link on the icon with the arrow logo. I’ve linked to the download version for each book, but there’s a little dropdown menu at the top right of the product page. You can toggle between download and CD. They might be available at retailers like B&N when these editions release in August. Libraries can order them through the Blackstone Library portal.

Here are the free samples of each book, so you can have a listen. The Rogue was narrated by Ashley Klanac.

Blackstone Audio

My audiobooks from this point forward will be distributed by Blackstone Audio. This means that in addition to being available from Amazon, Apple and Audible, and directly from Downpour (Blackstone’s direct-to-consumer portal), they’ll be available digitally from outlets like Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million. It also means that they’ll be available in physical as well as digital formats. And, maybe best of all, it means that they’ll be available to libraries, through various portals including Blackstone Library, in both digital and physical formats. I’m pretty excited about this!

As well as my new audiobooks being distributed this way, the current ones are being transitioned. The first audiobooks to make the transition to Blackstone are The Beauty Bride, The Rose Red Bride and The Rogue. They’ll be available from Blackstone in August and are up for pre-order now on their portals. (They’re probably also available for pre-order on the various portals that Blackstone feeds.) Wyvern’s Mate will be the first new book that goes out through Blackstone from the outset.
