The Dragonfire Novels

For millennia, the shape-shifting dragon warriors known as the Pyr have lived peacefully as guardians of both the four elements and the earth’s treasures. But now the final reckoning between the Pyr, who count humans among the earth’s treasures, and the Slayers, who would eradicate both humans and the Pyr who protect them, has begun…

Dragonfire is a paranormal romance series featuring dragon shape shifter heroes on quest to save humanity. The Dragonfire novels are listed here in reading order. Although each book stands alone as a complete romance, it’s easier to follow the over-riding story arc by reading the books in sequence.

The Dragonfire Novels are currently available in ebook, trade paperback and hardcover editions. They’re also currently being produced in AI-narrated audiobooks.

The story of the Pyr continues with The DragonFate Novels.

In the Dragon Legion Novellas, the darkfire crystal hurls Drake and the Dragon’s Tooth Warriors through time and space. Nine warriors are left behind over the course of this adventure, presumably in the time and place where each can pursue his firestorm. The first of their stories is Kiss of Enchantment, which is Orion’s story.

    • Hi Rena – Yes, Drake will get a story. I’m not sure when or how exactly yet – although I know what his story is. It might be a subplot in one of the next two books, or a digital novella published in between the two and included in the print edition of Sloane’s book. I’m still chewing on the possibilities – when I know, you’ll hear about it!

    • LOL laney81 – First things first! We have Firestorm Forever (Sloane’s book) to look forward to, and the big finish for the Dragon’s Tail wars.

After that, it’s all glimmers in my dragon eye. There are a lot of them, so I’ll have to choose. Stay tuned!

    • Well, thanks for reading my books!

As much as I’d love to write faster, sometimes stories just take time. I’ve been working on Malcolm’s book (The Frost Maiden’s Kiss) and knew I wouldn’t get much done while at BEA last week which frustrated me because there was something that wasn’t coming together. But on the flight home, I thought “OH!” and started to scribble madly on napkins and boarding passes. Having the break made it all come together just beautifully. 🙂

    • Well, Amie, it’s a separate spin-off series. I suppose you could read it anytime. You probably wouldn’t want to read it before KISS OF FATE, because that’s when Zöe, the heroine of the Dragon Diaries, first appears in the main series. I wrote it around the same time I wrote DARKFIRE KISS, so many readers have read it when they were at that point.

      I hope that helps!

I’m hoping to publish the next trilogy in fairly rapid succession, so there will be a bit of a delay while I get them written. My hope is that the series will launch in first quarter 2016. Fingers crossed! In the meantime, we have Here Be Dragons coming in November…

  9. I love this series. I have all the books in print and on my Kindle. I would love to have an audio version of them to listen to as well. Will they ever be available in an audio format?

    Like

    • Hi Cindy – I’m so glad you enjoy Dragonfire, and that you stopped by to tell me so!

I would love to have these books available at audio. The current challenge is that some the audio rights are controlled by my publisher and some by me. That makes it hard to develop a good plan. Also, I own the later ones, so if I went ahead with audio, I couldn’t start at the beginning of the series.

However, I’m going to put DragonFate into audio as it’s published. That might prompt my publisher to start with Dragonfire audiobooks. Alternatively, if and when the rights revert to me and the books are republished in new editions, I’ll do audio editions then.

So, here’s my big question for you – male or female narrator? (I’m thinking male.) Do you have any fave narrators for paranormal romance?

      Like

      • I would lean more towards a male narrator as well. My favorite male narrator is Luke Daniels. He has a way of bringing characters to life. I’ve heard him in several different series but my favorite is The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne.

Robert Petkoff is another favorite. He’s good with different accents and making voices for men and women. He does the Kresley Cole Immortals After Dark series.

Holter Graham and Fred Berman do most of the Sherrilyn Kennyon Dark Hunter series. They both do an excellent job with the different characters in the books.

All of the above have a way of bringing life to the characters instead of just reading the book.

I did see your name on a couple of The Jewels of Kinfairlie books on audible. I do a search on Audible every now and then for you to see if the Dragonfire books are there yet. I’ll make sure to keep an eye out for the Dragon Fate book and pick it up when it comes out.

      • Hi Cindy – Yes, I’ve been putting my medieval romances into audio editions. Saskia Maarleveld is narrating the Jewels of Kinfairlie and the True Love Brides, because I like her voice, her accents are wonderful and she does a brilliant job of distinguishing the various characters. There are often many people in a scene (eight siblings in that series) and not always dialogue tags, so that differentiation is important. For the Champions of Saint Euphemia, I thought I’d try a male narrator and chose Tim Gerard Reynolds. His voice is wonderful – you can listen to his audition on my Soundcloud page.

The medievals needed narrators with British accents, but Dragonfire will require American accents. Thanks so much for your suggestions! The availability of the narrator is always a variable, so it’s good to have more names. 🙂

    • Hi Zeinab –

I’m so glad to hear that you love Zoe as much as I do! There is a third book after Winging It, though – it’s called Blazing the Trail. Maybe you’re in the UK – the UK publisher only published the first two books in the series, but there is a third book. You can read more about it right here:
      Blazing the Trail

I am also planning to write more books about Zoe and the other Pyr kids, so please stay tuned for that!

    • Hi Teressa – The Dragonfire books that were published by NAL are in the midst of reverting to me. As each book reverts, it becomes unavailable in digital format. NAL has the right to sell their existing print stock, but not to print more. Once I have all eight books back, I’ll republish them in new editions in order.

Right now, Ember’s Kiss, Flashfire and Whisper Kiss have reverted.

  13. Hi Deborah, I have as Teresa recently started reading your Dragonfire series and I’m “hooked”. I love your stores, you style of writing and everything about this series. So, I’m almost finished with Book 4 and was looking for the ebook ‘Whisper Kiss” as well, when I found this note on your blog. When do you expect Whisper Kiss to be available in ebook format? Thank you so very much for your wonderful book, I know for sure I won’t stop at Dragonfire now that I found you. Best regards, Doro

    • Hi Doro – I’m glad you’re enjoying Dragonfire! Unfortunately, it’s very hard to predict when the rest of the books will revert to me. I’m hoping that the process will accelerate as more of the series becomes unavailable, but that remains to be seen. I’ll keep you all posted – when I hear news, I’ll share it. I know you’d like a more precise answer, but at this point, I don’t have one. 😦

Come to Incendium for a while. 🙂
