KDP Select and Dragons

I’ve enrolled several of my paranormal romance series into KDP Select this week, which means you can read them free in Kindle Unlimited.

The Dragonfire series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke in print editions

First up, The Dragonfire Novels. This series is complete and features dragon shifter heroes on a quest to save the earth from evil Slayers – but destined love keeps complicating their mission.

Start the series with Kiss of Fire.

The Dragons of Incendium series of paranormal and science fiction romances by Deborah Cooke enrolled in Kindle Unlimited

The Dragons of Incendium series featured dragon shifter princesses from space and the men bold enough to love them.

Here’s a link to Wyvern’s Mate at Amazon.com.

And here’s a link to the series page at Amazon.com.

Rebel, #3 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Deborah CookeI’ve also enrolled the Prometheus Project urban fantasy romance series, although there’s a bit of an issue with Fallen that Amazon is straightening out.

My Claire Delacroix time travel romances are currently enrolled in KDP Select.

You can read Coven of Mercy and An Elegy for Melusine free in KU right now.

And finally, my Secret Heart Ink series is also enrolled in KDP Select, although it’s just a teensy tiny heart tattoo that might have magical powers in that contemporary romance series.

Happy reading!

Housekeeping

Fallen, an urban fantasy romance featuring a fallen angel hero and book one of the Prometheus Project by Deborah CookeWith the publication of Maeve’s Book of Beasts, it’s clear that a lot of my other paranormal heroes are living in the world of Dragonfire. As a result, I’ve created some new tabs and moved some pages onto this site.

You’ll find the Prometheus Project living under the new tab Angels (which are really all Fallen Angels), and Coven of Mercy is living under another new tab called Vampires.

The Prometheus Project is a complete four-book series set in a dystopian future featuring fallen angel heroes, but there’s a dead fallen angel at the beginning of Maeve’s Book of Beasts. I think it’s fair to assume that he has something in common with my future-set angels. That series begins with Fallen – I hope you like Montgomery as much as I do!

Coven of Mercy, a vampire romance and short story by Deborah CookeCoven of Mercy is a short story and vampire romance. Micah, the hero of that story, has a cameo appearance in Maeve’s Book of Beasts, and Sebastian – the vampire and continuing character in DragonFate – is a reluctant member of Micah’s coven.

The Dragonfire Novels, the Prometheus Project and the Dragons of Incendium are moving into Kindle Unlimited this month. Coven of Mercy and An Elegy for Melusine (which explains Mel and Raymond’s backstory) are already there.

So, if you’re interested in my paranormal romance (and urban fantasy romance) hop on over to the Dragonfire Novels website and follow that blog.

Throwback Thursday – eBook Covers

I thought it would be fun to look at some old book covers, and play compare and contrast. We’ll start with my first four ebook covers for my first four indie-published books. I created these covers and was quite pleased with them, way back in 2011. I think I’ve learned a bit about covers since then…The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance II, an anthology of vampire romances including "Coven of Mercy" by Deborah Cooke

original ebook cover for Coven of Mercy, a vampire romance and short story by Deborah CookeFirst up, Coven of Mercy, my vampire romance and short story. This was first published in an anthology, the Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance II (which was called Love Bites in the UK, a title I still love) in print only. The anthology cover is on the right. At left is the cover I created for it in 2011.

Coven of Mercy, a short story and vampire romance by Deborah CookeHmm. I knew I didn’t have it right, so had a new cover designed. Here’s the second cover on the right.

Coven of Mercy, a short story and vampire romance by Deborah CookeAt left is the current cover, which I love. This guy looks just as I envision Micah.

Every time I write about this story, I’m reminded that it was supposed to be the first in a series. Then I try to figure out when I’m going to write that series. I’ll let you know when I do solve that riddle!

In the meantime, Coven of Mercy is available at all e-retailers.

Amor Vincit Omnia is a short story, a medieval romance that was originally published in a digital anthology called the Seven Deadly Sins. This story isn’t available on its own anymore, but is included in my anthology, Beguiled, in both digital and print formats.

The Leaves, a short story by Deborah Cooke, in its original ebook editionI also got some extra mileage out of that image I licensed for Coven of Mercy and used it for the cover of The Leaves, a short story I’d written and never published before this ebook edition in 2011. This story is also available now in the anthology, Beguiled.

The interesting thing here is that, in 2011, we weren’t sure people would read long stories in digital editions. Popular thinking was that short stories would rule the format, which of course, hasn’t proven to be true at all – but that’s why I published short stories first.

Beguiled, a collection of short stories and novellas by Claire Delacroix and Deborah CookeWriting this post made me realize that Beguiled hadn’t been updated for a while and was no longer available at all retailers – I had to take it down when the Ballad of Rosamunde was in Kindle Unlimited – so I’ve fixed that this week. I also am in the process of republishing the print edition, which disappeared in my distribution transition from Createspace to Ingrams.

Once Upon a Kiss, a Scottish time travel romance by Claire Delacroix (writing as Claire Cross), out of print mass market edition

Once Upon a Kiss, a Scottish time travel romance by Deborah Cooke, published under the pseudonym Claire Cross and republished as a Claire Delacroix titleOnce Upon a Kiss is a Scottish time travel romance that was published in 1998 by Berkley and was the first book I published under the name Claire Cross. Here’s my first ebook cover for it, at left.

Here’s the Berkley mass market edition at right.

Once Upon a Kiss, a Scottish paranormal romance by Claire DelacroixAnd here’s its current cover at right, created by Kim Killion back in 2011 when I realized that my cover wasn’t getting the job done.

Of course, Once Upon a Kiss is currently available at all ebook retailers, with the pretty cover by Kim.

Original ebook cover for Love Potion #9, a paranormal romance by Deborah Cooke, first published under the pseudonym Claire Cross and now a Claire Delacroix title

Love Potion #9, a paranormal romance and romantic comedy by Claire Delacroix (writing as Claire Cross), out of print mass market edition

Love Potion #9 is a paranormal romance and romantic comedy, and was my fourth book published under the pseudonym Claire Cross. My first ebook cover is at left. The original mass market cover is at right. I always liked the cover art, which was painted by Judy York. It depicts a scene in the book, which is a rare and wonderful thing.

Love Potion #9, a paranormal romance by Claire DelacroixLove Potion #9, a paranormal romance and romantic comedy by Claire DelacroixI subsequently licensed the cover art from Judy and she added type to it for me. (You can see with this title that we didn’t have fixed proportions for ebook covers for a while.)

Eventually, I had Kim make the type consistent with my other books, and this edition on the right is the one that’s available now.

The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance II, an anthology of vampire romances including "Coven of Mercy" by Deborah Cooke

Several years ago, I was invited to contribute a vampire short story to the anthology The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance II (the title was Love Bites in the UK.) I wanted to do something different from the usual vampire romance, and Coven of Mercy was the result. The Mammoth Book is still available, with the cover at right. This story was also available for a while as a digital short with the cover at the far right, but now has the wonderful new cover you see above left.

Beguiled, a collection of short stories and novellas by Claire Delacroix and Deborah Cooke

Coven of Mercy is also included in my short story and novella collection Beguiled, which is available in both print and digital formats.

I’ve been wanting to expand the world of the coven since first writing this story. Maybe the new cover will prompt me to do that.

Coven of Mercy News

A couple of years ago, I wrote my first vampire romance, a short story called Coven of Mercy. It was included in the Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance II (Love Bites is the UK edition.) I subsequently published a digital-only edition of my story alone.

I really liked this story and the questions it raised for me, also the characters it introduced. I always planned to go back to that world and explore it more, and (ta da!) that’s what I’m doing this year. So, right now, the digital-only edition is in the process of being unpublished. That story will remain available in the anthology, but will be revised to become part of the new bigger story.

Stay tuned for more news about Coven of Mercy: The Complete Story.

Short and Spooky Reads

At this time of year, people have believed that the veil between this world and the realm of the dead was thinner than usual. There was a full moon this week, as well, just adding to the spookiness factor. I suppose it makes sense that as the days grow shorter and the nights seem darker, that we think about ghost stories and things that go bump in the night. This is a great time of year for horror writers and movies.

I don’t tend to write horror, but I do like ghost stories and spooky stories. I do have a couple of seasonal stories that might interest you – both are 99 cents.

First there’s a spooky little short story of mine that’s available only on Amazon for Kindle. It is NOT a romance, and since it’s just over 3,000 words, it doesn’t have a table of contents. I like it, though, and I think of it every fall when I’m walking in the wind.

It’s called The Leaves and here’s the link.

Halloween is also a time for the undead to rise. I’m not written many vampire romances, although I did love the vampire books written by Anne Rice. Here’s the only one of mine published so far – it’s a short story written for The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance II. The antho was published simultaneously in the UK and I loved their title – the UK house called it Love Bites. My story is called Coven of Mercy, and is a little bit different take on vampires. It again is a short story but is a romance – this is about 10,000 words in length You can buy the whole antho, or you can just try my story. Here’s the Amazon link, the B&N link, the Smashwords link, the KOBO link and the Sony link. It’s also on Apple, but the iTunes links are territory-dependent, so you’ll need to hunt it down yourself.

Happy Halloween, everyone! I hope the goblins at your door tonight are just looking for candy!

Smish Smash

Three more works have gone to Smashwords for digital release. These are already available on Amazon in Kindle editions, but SW will eventually make them available at B&N, Sony, KOBO, Diesel and Apple. That process takes a while, but you can buy directly from SW now.

Love Potion #9 by Claire Delacroix – my contemporary romantic comedy with paranormal elements (and tarot cards).

The Ballad of Rosamunde by Claire Delacroix – my medieval novella, linked to the Jewels of Kinfairlie, featuring Rosamunde getting her HEA. This was published in the Mammoth Book of Irish Romance but was cut for space constraints there. The digital edition is the whole story.

Coven of Mercy by Deborah Cooke – my only vampire story, a short story published in the Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance II.

Claire Delacroix Smashwords page is right here.
Deborah Cooke Smashwords page is right here.

Another Digital Work

I’ve also uploaded the other short story I wrote for a MAMMOTH anthology.

“Coven of Mercy”, my first and thus far only vampire story, is now available in a Kindle edition from Amazon.

Here’s the permalink.

It’s interesting to read these pieces after a period of time. I still really like this piece, even though it’s different from the usual vampire romance. I would still like to write Micah’s entire story. It would be a huge book, an epic journey across the centuries, and I think it would be a ton of fun. What do you think?
