New Editions of The Dragon Diaries

Today, all three books in The Dragon Diaries trilogy are available in new editions!

Flying Blind, book #1 of the Dragon Diaries series of paranormal YA novels by Deborah Cooke

Zoë is the Wyvern of the Pyr—the one female dragon shape shifter with special powers.  But Zoë is at the bottom of the class when it comes to being Pyr, and her powers are AWOL. Worse, there’s no reference book to consult, and the last Wyvern is dead….

Everything changes when Zoë’s best friend is bullied and Zoë reacts. Before she can blink twice, her inner dragon is loose, and she’s suspended from school and headed to a shape shifter boot camp with guys she’s known all her life. But soon she’s doubting her powers—and even some of her friendships.

Zoë quickly realizes she has to master her powers yesterday—there’s danger ahead and boot camp is a trap. A secretive group, the Mages, want to eliminate all shifters and the Pyr are next in line—unless Zoë and her friends can solve the riddle and work together to save their own kind…

“Zoe is a wonderful heroine–smart, strong and sympathetic. Bring on book two!”

Winging It, book #2 of the Dragon Diaries YA trilogy by Deborah Cooke

Zoë Sorensson yearns to come into her powers as the only female dragon shifter. But being part of two worlds is more complicated than she expected. It’s bad enough that she’s the target of the Mages’ plan to eliminate all shifters—she also has to hide her true nature from her best friend Meagan, a human. For her sixteenth birthday, all Zoë wants is one normal day, including a tattoo and a chance to see hot rocker Jared.

Instead, the Pyr throw her a birthday party but ban Meagan from attendance, putting Zoë in a tight spot. Things get even worse when Zoë is invited to the popular kids’ Halloween party and Meagan’s left out. Zoë knows the party is a trap laid by the host, an apprentice Mage. When Meagan gets a last-minute invite, Zoë must save the day—and her best friend—without revealing her fire-breathing secrets…

Blazing the Trail, #3 of the Dragon Diaries YA trilogy by Deborah Cooke

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and Zoë Sorensson’s love life is heating up. Cute, loyal, and understanding, wolf shifter Derek is pretty much the perfect guy. He likes Zoë, and he knows what it’s like to have to keep a secret. Yet, Zoë can’t help but wish it was rebel rocker Jared asking her to the Valentine’s dance instead. But Jared’s too busy playing hot and cold with her heart, calling Zoë his dragon girl one minute and then taking special interest in her best friend the next.

Zoë is just about ready to breathe fire, especially once she uncovers a new threat that targets her friends. Although Zoë thought the Mages were defeated, they’re back and have invoked an old spell to give them new power—they plan to eliminate all shape shifters on the night of the big dance. Now, Zoë must lead an alliance of young shifters to battle the Mages and figure out exactly what—and who—she wants, before it all goes up in smoke…

“I have been a huge fan of Deborah Cooke for many years. When a new release comes across my path, I truly do a happy dance. Cooke has lived up to her previous work with BLAZING THE TRAIL. I loved how Zoe deals with the everyday issues in front of her while trying to save the world with the Pyr and fellow shifters.”—Fresh Fiction

24 Books

This year has been a really busy one for me in terms of publishing, but I didn’t realize how busy until I sat down and made a list last weekend. I love lists and this is yet more evidence why.

I’ve been publishing a LOT of books this year. Here’s the list so far:

One Knight Enchanted, book #1 of the Sayerne series of medieval romances by Claire Delacroix1. One Knight Enchanted
This was a revision of an older title (originally published in 1998 as Enchanted) which I thought would be quick and easy. Instead, it turned out to be such a huge editorial process that it would have been easier to just write an entirely new book.

2. In the Midnight Hour
Book #3 in the Flatiron Five series of contemporary romance. This is Damon and Haley’s book.

3. A Duke By Any Other Name
This is book #2 in my Brides of North Barrows series of Regency romances. It was originally published in the Christmas at Castle Keyvnor anthology Charmed at Christmas, but I published it on its own in March.

Wyvern's Angel, book #9 of the Dragons of Incendium series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke4. Wyvern’s Angel
Book #9 in my Dragons of Incendium series of paranormal romances.

5. Kiss of Fire
A new edition of the paranormal romance and book #1 of the Dragonfire Novels. Again, I thought this would be an easy update, but it was more work than I expected – plus there were seven more titles to be prepped for publication. The titles that were already available all had to be updated, as well.

6. Kiss of Fury
A new edition of book #2 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances.

Kiss of Fate, #3 of the Dragonfire Novels, a series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke7. Kiss of Fate
A new edition of book #3 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances.

8. Winter Kiss
A new edition of book #4 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances.

9. Whisper Kiss
A new edition of book #6 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances.

10. Darkfire Kiss
A new edition of book #7 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances.

Flashfire, #7 of the Dragonfire Novels, a series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke11. Flashfire
A new edition of book #8 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances.

12. Ember’s Kiss
A new edition of book #9 of the Dragonfire Novels series of paranormal romances.

13. Snowbound
Book #1 of Secret Heart Ink, a contemporary romance series that is also set in the Flatiron Five world.

14. Spring Fever
Book #2 of Secret Heart Ink.

Some Guys Have All the Luck, #4 in the Flatiron Five series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke15. Some Guys Have All the Luck
This is book #4 of my Flatiron Five series of contemporary romance.

That’s where I’m at so far. Some of these haven’t been published yet, but they’re all locked and loaded at the portals and thus are off my desk (and off my To Do list).

Still to come for this year are the following titles:

16. Nimue’s Gift
A short story set in the Dragons of Incendium world, and #10 in that series, coming later this month (along with the print edition of Wyvern’s Angel).

17. Flying Blind
This is book #1 of the Dragon Diaries, a paranormal YA trilogy set in the world of the Dragonfire Novels, follows Zoë’s coming of age as the new Wyvern. It’s being republished in a new edition.

Winging It, book #2 of the Dragon Diaries paranormal YA trilogy by Deborah Cooke18. Winging It
This is book #2 of the Dragon Diaries, a paranormal YA trilogy set in the world of the Dragonfire Novels, follows Zoë’s coming of age as the new Wyvern. It’s being republished in a new edition.

19. Blazing the Trail
This is book #3 of the Dragon Diaries, a paranormal YA trilogy set in the world of the Dragonfire Novels, follows Zoë’s coming of age as the new Wyvern. It’s being republished in a new edition.

20. Here Be Dragons: A Dragonfire Companion
A world guide for the Dragonfire Novels, coming in October.

One Hot Summer Night, #3 of the Secret Heart Ink series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke21. One Hot Summer Night
Book #3 of Secret Heart Ink, coming in September. This Gabe and Lexi’s second chance romance.

22. Going to the Chapel
A short story set in the Flatiron Five world and #4 in the series, coming in September. My working title for this is Two Weddings and a Baby, which tells you all you need to know about it.

23. Under the Mistletoe
Book #4 of Secret Heart Ink and Chynna’s story, as well as a Christmas story, coming in October.

24. The Runaway Bride
Book #2 of my Brides of Inverfyre series of medieval Scottish romances and Ross’s story, coming in October.

Phew! This list makes me realize why I feel like I’ve been working all the time! It’s good to have all these books available again, but I’m glad to be moving on to new work. There won’t be 24 releases next year, though!

Print Editions in the Store

I’ve listed more print editions for sale in my online store, including a number of mass market copies. I don’t have a lot of these, so when they’re gone, they’re gone. All print copies will be signed before they’re mailed out – there’s a nifty new field in the check-out form for you to specify who the books should be signed for, as well as to order some additional bookplates for the books you already own.

The current print book offerings in the store are bundles of linked books. This is because the application doesn’t yet have the ability to calculate postage by weight and destination. That feature is supposed to be in the works, so I’ll add more individual titles to the store then. Here’s what I’ve added this week:

The Crusader's Bride, a medieval romance by Claire DelacroixAll or Nothing, #4 of the Coxwell series of contemporary romances by Deborah Cooke (writing as Claire Cross), out of print trade paperback edition

The Champions of Saint Euphemia bundle now includes The Crusader’s Kiss.

Berkley trade paperback editions of The Coxwells

Partial set of Berkley trade paperback editions of The Coxwells

Fallen, book #1 of the Prometheus Project of urban fantasy romances by Claire Delacroix, out of print mass market editionKiss of Fire, first of the Dragonfire series of paranormal romances by Deborah Cooke

Winging It

Winging It, second of the paranormal YA trilogy The Dragon Diaries by Deborah CookeRecently, the rights to Winging It, book #2 of my paranormal YA trilogy, The Dragon Diaries, reverted to me. This means that the publisher can still sell their existing print stock of the book but not reprint more. It also means that their digital edition has been removed from sale.

In the case of this particular trilogy, the reversion of the books is based upon the number of units sold: when sales drop below a certain threshold, the books are eligible for reversion. Because I’d like to have the rights to other two books in the trilogy revert to me as well, I’ve removed the buy links here on my site to both Flying Blind and Blazing the Trail. You can still buy them, but I’d prefer you didn’t. Once I have the rights back to all three books–whenever that happens, and it might take a while–I’ll republish them in new editions.

Winging It, second of the paranormal YA trilogy The Dragon Diaries by Deborah Cooke, UK edition

UK edition

The interesting wrinkle in this situation is that my publisher had sold subsidiary rights for both Flying Blind and Winging It to a second publisher based in the UK. That UK publisher never did acquire the rights to book #3, Blazing the Trail. Their edition of Winging It is the one on the left. It will remain available in some territories in both print and digital formats because that contract remains in effect. If you think this is a bit strange and confusing, you’re not alone! I’m sure things will be sorted into some kind of coherence eventually, so please stay tuned.

Guest Post at the Bookshelf Sophisticate

One of the fun things about writing my paranormal YA trilogy, The Dragon Diaries, was the blog tours I did to promote it. I “met” so many reviewers and bloggers who loved books, and their enthusiasm was infectious. Recently one of those bloggers, Katelyn of The Bookshelf Sophisticate, emailed me to find out what I was writing. We had a great chat, and she invited me to write a guest post for her blog. That post goes live today, and because I am the way I am (and it’s Christmas!), I added a contest. So, slip on over to my guest post at The Bookshelf Sophisticate and learn a bit more about my crowded office.

Review for WINGING IT

Cover for WINGING IT, YA #2

Here’s another new review for the Dragon Diaries from Dawn – this one is for WINGING IT. Here’s the last paragraph:

“WINGING IT is a fun, action-packed ride from start to finish., With her trademark writing style, Ms. Cooke delivers one adventure after another as Zoe deals with everything and she really steps up to the plate here. She is definitely one kick-butt heroine that I enjoy immensely, even if she is a teenager. If you are looking for a dragon shifter series to enjoy or need your fix of the Dragonfire world, then grab the books in the Dragon Diaries series. Ms. Cooke delivers another stellar story in the world of dragons and I am eager for the final chapter for Zoe. Will Zoe, her Pyr friends and allies finally beat the Mages? Can Zoe ever live comfortably in two worlds? Find out in The Dragon Diaries Trilogy and get ready for one entertaining ride.”

Four hearts! Thanks Dawn! You can read the whole review, right here.

Review for FLYING BLIND

There’s a new review posted for FLYING BLIND today. Here’s the summary paragraph of the review:

“FLYING BLIND is a wonderful way to be introduced into the Dragonfire world for new readers of this author to enjoying a pick-me-up while loyal readers wait for the next book in either her adult Dragonfire series or the Dragon Diaries series. This had the right amount of drama, action, suspense, humor and more that will please both adult fans and her new young adult fans. Deborah Cooke delivers one heck of a high octane ride in FLYING BLIND. Are you ready to explore the world of the Pyr?”

You can read more about the book on my website, right here. You can read the whole review, right here.

I think good reviews are the best way to start a day!

The Dragon Diaries

I’ve had a lot of email from readers lately about The Dragon Diaries, specifically asking what’s next for Zoë and the guys now that BLAZING THE TRAIL has been published.

The Dragon Diaries was always intended to be a trilogy, featuring Zoë and her coming of age as the new Wyvern of the Pyr. So, with the publication of book #3, The Dragon Diaries is complete.

Cover for WINGING IT, YA #2

There does remain, however, the question of the guys (Liam, Garrett and Nick) and their stories, as well as the entwined stories of Meagan, Jared, Isabelle. There’s also the question of the stories of the other shifters, Derek, Kohana and Jessica. Phew! I like how the series ended (no spoilers here) with lots of questions about the future of the various surviving shifters and their new alliance.

There are no additional books featuring these characters scheduled or contracted at this time. Part of the reason for that is that I can’t see them as young adult novels. The dragon guys are going to make key decisions about their lives and face big challenges during their firestorms, which means that their books will be paranormal romances. It seems reasonable that similar challenges will be faced at the same time by the other shifters and the humans, too. I’m thinking of leaving them all to grow up a bit – both in their timeline and in ours – then revisiting them as they join forces for another big quest. Tentatively, I’m calling this series Dragonfire II, but the first thing on my agenda is finishing Dragonfire I. That’s my plan for 2013, then I’ll get back to Zoë and her pals again.

So, stay tuned!

Review for BLAZING THE TRAIL

Here’s another review for Blazing the Trail – this one’s from Nicole at Books Complete Me.

“There are so many twists in this book, I loved it. I could not put it down, and read it in a day. If you have read Deborah’s adult books, with the adult dragons, then you will love this series with the kids!”
