Visit from Phoebe Conn

Today, my guest author is Phoebe Conn, an author I’ve met only virtually. We are on several loops and digests together, so it’s fun to have Phoebe as a guest here today. Please welcome Phoebe!

WHY I LOVE BOOKS
by Phoebe Conn

I was fortunate to have been born into a family that loved to read. When I was small, both of my parents read to me before bedtime. I learned to read before I went to school by following along with the words as my mother read nursery rhymes. My father preferred classic action stories like TREASURE ISLAND. When I began to write my own books, action adventure was what I chose. I’m sure my father deserves the credit.

Now I belong to two book clubs. One had been meeting for years before I joined and is a compatible group that selects non-fiction as often as fiction. Our meetings include a potluck dinner that makes the evening fun no matter what we thought of the book. The group read THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, but then most of us went on to the next two books and many of us saw the three Swedish films made from them. Those of us who loved the books even went to see the American version of the first book. When we love a story, we’ll stick with it.

My other book club began at a bookstore and focuses on mysteries. We meet for coffee after work and take turns choosing our books. We recently finished THE JASMINE TRADE by Denise Hamilton. It’s set in the San Gabriel Valley where we live, which made the book more fun to read. Denise was a reporter for the Los Angeles Times and packs her stories with local color. If you enjoy mysteries, give her a try. If you haven’t belonged to a book club start one with your friends. They’re fun and you can meet for coffee, lunch or potluck dinners. It’s a terrific way to keep up with your reading and your friends. Keep a journal to list titles and authors and you’ll be surprised by how many books you’ll read in a year.

My next book from Samhain, is a Retro Romance, CAPTIVE HEART. The book was a New York Times bestseller, and I’m delighted to have it available again. You don’t need a Kindle to read ebooks. Instead, download the Kindle app and you’ll be able to read on your computer. I read Kindle stories at the end of the day when I’ve finished working. It’s a nice way to relax.

I’ll give a copy of CAPTIVE HEART, either print or ebook, to someone who comments. I love to hear from readers. Please send me an email: phoebeconn@earthlink.com, or visit my website: phoebeconn.com

  1. I should have mentioned that I love to knit. I use size 17 needles and Lion Brand Homespun yarn to make scarves I give for presents. I also donate some each year to a women’s shelter. My mother once asked if I couldn’t just sit still. “No, I can’t!”
